Hi all, Was in birds all day Monday, first day of sun after big storm, snow melting fast. Third gobbler of the day after an hour and a half of calling/watching/strategizing shot an 18 pounder with 9 3/4" beard at appx. 6:30 PM (Wanted to attach a pic but can't reduce it's size I guess) Can't ever get them to come to me, I have to put the sneak on them. Happy Hunting, Vern.

Congrats on the bird, I'll be in Montrose for an extended weekend in a couple days to hunt the gobblers on the plateau, hope I have as good o' luck as you. I'll let you show me how to kill a bird if you want. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Savage,
I shot a gobbler this weekend on the plateau off the Dave Wood road. Can't tell you how many birds I worked before I finally got one alone that came in gobbling! I shot him at 50 yards, nice bird with an 8 inch beard.

ChrisS-
I was hunting off Dave Wood road last weekend too. We were just below the Elk Mountain Resort. We got into birds but couldn't call them in close enough for a shot. Where were you hunting? This is my first season hunting turkeys, what a blast! I hope to get out for one more weekend.
My brother lives in Woodland Park - Scott Murray, do you know him?

I shot my bird just below Elk Mountain. I also hunted on some private land on the upper end of government springs and on the south side of horsefly canyon. We got into birds at all these places. What were you driving?, maybe I saw you. Your brothers name doesn't sound familiar right off the top of my head. Good luck!

We were in my brother's green Toyota with a topper. Were you the guy in the Pathfinder?

I wasn't the guy in the pathfinder, although I was parked by him a couple times. I was in a silver Chevy truck.

Congrats Chris, There have been quite a few gobblers taken from that area and others around here, sounds like a nice bird I want to get up there and practice before they stop gobbling good. ........ But you know what they say, you can want in one hand and ..... in the other, and see which one fills up first, Vern.
