Day three, I set up on some milo stubble. Was about to give up when a hen came in. Accross the field, I saw some movement and saw the RED head. He was with some hens and I thought no way. I gave him the magic and slowly he came acrross the field. I wasn't hid all that well, so I got the gun up and gave it to him at 29 paces. Well, that ends the season for me, one of the best on record. The daughter still has one tag so maybe we can get out some this weekend. This tom had 1 1/8 inch spurs and an eleven inch beard. He was like all of us want to be, a little womanized down. He tipped the scales at 21 pounds. Three birds down now totaling 68 pounds...........

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> You sure do deserve another congratulations. I will gladly step aside for anybody that spends quality time in the field. You have had a GREAT season and I hope your daughter has another chance to fill that other tag. Sure is good eatin ain't it??? I just this minute got back from NY state. I drove 6 1/2 hours just to make sure i touched base with the landowner and make sure I had permission to hunt it again, and I do. I freshened up my blinds and checked the sign. I have been hunting this same spot since 1999 and have never seen as much sign as I did this past weekend. I hope I can have some pictures to post for you the second week of May. I am trying to introduce my wife to turkey hunting. She hunts deer and moose with me. It's the getting up at 3 AM and sitting under an oak tree for 2 hours before daybreak that is giving her second thoughts. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Once again, Congrats.

TY LBK...Well, we didn't spend as much time out this weekend, however, we did go quite a bit... I blew a chance for the girl to get one on Saturday. I knew there was one there, so we made our set. We had out a hen decoy and I've gave a couple of weak yelps. We have more than normal vegataion growth this year.. He never answered, but came in from our right.. I did not see him for all the buck brush.. He was only about 35 yards and I think coming at the decoy.. Well, I decided to give another call not knowing he was coming... He lifted his head and gave out the puck puck and turned and walked away......Bummer....

Today we did have lots of Toms gobbling, but we didn't see many and couldn't call any......Tonight, I guess we set in a tick nest as we had them all over us.....Enough that we gave up early and headed home........Probably will go out again next weekend a little, but it is not a must as we have have great success and loads of fun........I think now she wants to fish and I'll have to turn her over to her mom for this chore as that don't do much for me.....

As for the wife, I wouldn't blame her for not wanting to go out that early.......I wouldn't either.......It's not necessary around here to get there that far in advance and if we aren't hunting the roost, I have better luck between 10am and 2pm most of the time.......But then I am lucky enough to have several different places to hunt that all offer different hunting senerios.. Post some pics when you get them.....

I like to hear you talk that way. It is never about the numbers, it's the fun and memories involved. Here in New England we can only hunt till noon at the latest, so we have to make the most out of the morning. I hunted many years in New Hampshire without getting a bird,. In fact my first was two years ago here. BUT in New York state there are far more birds and each year I manage two in the spring. My drawback is that I can't use a mouth call. I use boxes and slates exclusively. I hace a Quaker Boy easy yelper mountes on the barrel of my 10 ga. H&R single. I have two of them. One with a 36" barrel and the other a newer one with, I think, a 24" barrel. Both have red dot scopes on them. I an 60 now and my eyes aren't what they used to be. Talking to you has been fun. You know what hunting is all about and your daughter will always remember that about you.
