More specifically the Dan Post boots with the cowboy certified soles? I'm thinking of getting a pair of caiman boots with this sole and would like to know how they hold up before shelling out that much money. I've never had anything other than the traditional leather, but these new high tech soles look to be more comfortable and longer wearing.

Anyone have experience with them?

I've got some Dan Post boots, no complaints, but they're leather soled.

No experience with that particular sole. I do have a pair of Double H Super Ropers with a non-leather sole. The things are amazing. They're every bit of 10 years old, 5 years of that was nearly daily wearing. Replaced the heel caps twice, but the soles are still good.

Dan Posts always have been a decent brand of boot, but I would not buy them if they are Chinese made.

Too many perfectly good U.S. made boots to be buying Chinese made stuff.

I'm sure they're assembled by Mexicans like the majority of mass produced boots here in the US, whether its in El Paso or across the border in Juarez.

Never crossed my mind that they might be made in China. Will have to check on that.

Back in the days when I was recovering from my back injury I took up walking, every day rain or shine, seven days a week. I started at a mile a day. Eighteen months later I was up to nine miles a day. That was two walks of four and a half miles, the morning walk with five pound ankle weights. That was all done with a pair of Double H ropers with their synthetic sole. The uppers finally gave out but the sole was still in tact. I think they were about four years old when I replaced them with another pair.

I wore a pair of Dan Post out.It took about six years to do it,retired them about 20years ago.

I've got a pair, but they're old and American made. I'm sure the soles are regular leather.

These days, there are are just about more Chinese made "cowboy" boots here in the US than Mex made .

Just about all Ariat boots are Chinese made.

I have Justins and Tony Lamas with the regular soles and have one that currently needs its third sole. Its gotten pretty hard to find a cobbler now and when you do the price is ridiculous. I hate retiring a good pair of elephant skin boots.

I'm thinking these new soles might be longer wearing and might be better for my feet now that I've developed plantar fasciitis, plus I really like the looks of the black caiman.

I knew the ariats were mostly Chinese so have not even looked at them. Was at a Cavenders a few weeks ago and that was half of their inventory.
I emailed Dan Post and asked where their boots are made.

It will be interesting to hear what they tell you.

FWIW, I looked at some of those Cayman Dan Post boots and they look very nice from the pics.

The sad thing is even if they are made in the US, the materials mostly come from somewhere else. Even the leather isn't tanned in the US because of the cost of all the EPA regulations.

When I was stationed in El Paso, the US boot makers there mostly hired Mexicans from across the border, legally. They were happy to work for minimum wage I guess.

I have one pair of Dan Post boots but they have leather soles on them. They have been a good pair of boots but the shaft is a bit smaller around than I prefer.

For harder use or work I have been wearing a pair of Double-H western work boots. They have a sole that wears like iron. I wear out a set of heels every year and a half or so probably because of being on concrete so much and also the fact Uncle Sam pounded it into my head 45 years ago to walk on my heels. I've never been able to shake that habit and I'm sure that is part of the reason my heels wear as fast as they do. I have been very satisfied with these boots otherwise.

Go here for the best boots made in the U.S.A. They can make whatever you want which will fit you perfectly and last a long, long time. They've been in business in Nogales, Arizona for more than 60 years.

go Double H for a decent USA made boot

A lot of Justin boots are made in the USA, one plant a mile from where I'm typing, another about 40 miles away. One of the mechanics that works for my company used to put soles on there. He said as an employee of Justin they could pretty much make whatever boot they wanted at cost. Said the most popular boot coming out of there for the workers was a full quill ostrich upper sewn to a work type sole.

Dad went to a foot specialist for it, I think in Independence, about 3 or 4 years ago. They made up a custom insole ($500?) to support/stretch the right stuff. He wore them in all his shoes for a long while, now just the shoes he wears to work. I think its gotten a lot better, but I can ask.

I wish you hadn't told me that. Ariat is all I wear. I have a hard time getting boots to fit my narrow feet.

Got a reply back from Dan Post. The boots I am interested in are made in Mexico, which is what I suspected. They said they do not have a boot made in the US.

I did buy my son a pair of made in the USA Anderson Bean boots for Christmas that seem to be good quality.
