........a 300 H&H Tropical with a 26" barrel! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Other than the No.1 in 22lr mentioned in an earlier thread, I'd like to see Ruger make an African Series of No.1's in the S or H configuration, depending on chambering.

Color casehardened receivers

Nice Wood and good wood to metal fit

English paddle cheekpiece

Integral quarter rib like on the Ruger M77 RSM

Leather wrapped recoil pad

Chambered for:
6.5 MS
7x57
280 Halger, 275 H&H, 280-333 Jeffery (any of the three or all three)
303 Brit
300 H&H
318 Westley Richards
333 Jeffery
350 Rigby
375 H&H
450-400
416 Rigby
404 Jeffery
425 Westley Richards
500-450
500-465
470 Nitro
Etc...

1. Create a scaled-down version of the #1 action that's lighter and slimmer than the current model. Think Dakota model 10. Why should a .257 or .270 be built on an action suitable to the .416 Rigby?
2. Reintroduce the Model 3 with 20" barrels in .221 Fireball, .30-30, .375 JDJ, .454 Casull, and the new .460 & .500 Smith & Wessons. A .500 Smith in a stout single shot would be quite the thumper. The .454 casull model would digest .45 Colt ammo as well as the longer case. The .475 Linebaugh Long is also a possibilty.

I remember when Ruger brought out the Casull in their No. 3 and a revover.
I would have bought one but the Casull case was too short to meet minnimum requirements at the ime.
Alberta has since trashed the minimum case law, but I have not seen a No. 3 in 454 Casull yet! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I never heard of a #3 in .454. Are you sure that they made one?

POSITIVE!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I remember the atricle clearly,, thhey profiled the No.3 and one of their revolvers.
I figured it would be a great combo onm ,my fly-in trapline, away from civilization where a fella can pack a hundgun with worrying about the "fun police"! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

But i also wanted to hunt with it when i was in town, and the laws being what they were then, well it wasn't possible.

But yes, they did.
I think maybe either Dogzapper , Dr. Howellor muledeer could help us with this.
It may have been Shooting times where i saw it , i nmnot sure, however. Would have been about early '80s?

But then even if Ruger did all that is asked for it would still be a Ruger! The next accurate rifle Ruger makes will be their first.

Cat,

I don't claim to know it all, but the Ruger #3 was Loooon Gooonnne, before Ruger ever made a revolver in .454 Casull. According to my sources the Ruger #3 was discontinued in 1987.

However, the Browning 1885 High Wall did make a short run of rifles in .454 Casull.

I don't believe that the Ruger Redhawk was available until 2001 or 2002 in .454 Casull.

On a side note, every time I stick my neck out... Someone proves me wrong. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> No flames intended here...the9.3Guy

I'm with mainframe here. I'd like to see Ruger make a scaled down #1 for 17 HMR, 22 Hornet, Etc.
This would be the "cats meow" for me. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

9_3 Guy, non sparked!
I am sure of the article, but maybe it was a custom?
But I am positive it was a No.3 and not an 1885 or B78 that it was about.
I will do some digging and try to find out.
I phoned ruger and they told me that the No.3 was NOT made in the 454 Casull, so it must have been a custom pair that I had read about.
Would be a cool combination, though!

Cat',

I have to agree! It would make a very cool combo. I considered buying one of the Brownings; but I felt that the 28" barrel was longer than needed for the .454 Casull.

Of course, in retrospect, I rather wish I had bought one. I guess I could have cut the barrel down. But who knew that all of a sudden Browning was going to drop the 1885?

On another subject, It has been rumored for the last 6 or 8 years that Ruger is going to drop the #1. 'Twould be a big mistake, IMHO. ...the9.3Guy

That has to be nothing but a NASTY RUMOUR! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

I saw an 1885 in Casull on one of the websites where i buy rifles.
it was some time ago, but that is one caliber that I no loonger yearn for.
