I just received my first custom rifle. It was built by John Pierce of Pierce Engineering in Lansing, MI. It is a .260 Rem on a Pierce action; 23" Broughton 1-8 twist, 3.05 contour barrel; Jewell trigger; in a Micky Edge Remington Hunter stock. The finish is Cerakote gun metal. The rifle weighs 7lbs with the Talley LW rings. It is scoped with a Burris Black Diamond 4-16x50.







I have done no real load development. I loaded some RL-19 into some cases with Sierra GameKings for break in and then loaded 43.5 RL-19, CCI 200, Sierra 140gr Matchkings to take to the 24hourcampfire Michigan gathering today. After a few shots to zero I fired four for a group at 300yds and put them into .860". I am thrilled!

The gun looks really nice, not crazy about the Dolly scope on it though

Naw..no hurt feelings. The scope is there for some fun shooting at targets and such; where it seems to work well. If I hunt with it, I will go with much smaller glass.

Sure shoots well, is that 7 lbs with scope?

7lbs is with rings only. It actually came out a little lighter than I thought it would.

Nice rifle. I am with the others on the scope. You just in time for the new 260 Lapua brass also. I see the neck size stamped on the barrel, does that mean it is a tight neck and requires turning?

I handled that rifle yesterday! To say I was impressed, was the understatement of the year! Even tho' I'm a Leupold slut, that Burris scope was very very clear. 405wcf kindly offered to let be shoot it, but I was not dressed for the cold weather, and was quite unconfortable. thus declined. As an aferthought, I think I made a missnake!

I only live about 5 minutes from Pierce Engineering and I know I WILL have one of his actions. Ironically, I never knew he existed until I saw it here on the 'fire...

The neck does not require turning. I don't know the exact chamber dimensions, but when I compare the fired brass from this rifle with the fired brass from a friend's 260, my chamber is tighter.

I am using standard Redding match dies.

Grasshopper, was it the smoothness of the action which sold you?

I definitely liked the smoothness of the action. But also the workmanship just exuded QUALITY ! I also liked the design of the the bolt release. 'Course the Jewell trigger is 2nd to none! What's not to like?

That really is a nice looking rifle for sure. Never heard of the company, but now I have. I was just wondering about the price range if you don't mind me being nosey.

John's action are $950 I think. Everything else is in line with most high quality gunsmith's. I talked to him for a while before my latest build. Super guy and really nice work. I just decided on Borden because.
