Well I know I did not agree to be "one of the 12" but this recipe caught my interest and so I made it the other day and took some pictures... hopefully I will not be nosing in too much but I will post up tomorrow with pics... needless to say it was delicious and worth keeping... I am thinking its a good side for a T-giving dinner.

For the record, I added a quarter pound of sliced, sauteed button mushrooms and a handful of chopped parsley to the white sauce. Was good.

I pretty much followed the recipe, used 1/3 cup of Gruyere and the rest was Lorraine Swiss. I shredded the Gruyere with a micro-plane so it was super fine and it had no problem covering the entire dish after I already had a complete layer of Swiss. I used a Chianti and served it with meatloaf and we started with a salad with candied pecan, red onion, romaine, and tomatoes. The plan was too take the onion bake out and let it sit while we ate the salads... that was not long enough for it to cool down enough not to run but once it cooled a little more it was solid enough... but I was hungry and impatient.

The meatloaf is venison/wild pork/cheap ground beef (for fat content) and usually consists of whatever we have and normally about 20 ingredients... it is made different every time I make it, most of the time its great just as long its not overcooked. Most include onion, mushroom, parsley, salt, pepper, just a little brown sugar, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic..... this time the obligatory ketchup based sauce was kicked up with some chipotle and contained another 20 ingredients I could not even remember if I tried. It really worked out well s both cook at 350 and both cooked almost the exact same amount of time.

We do pretty big pot luck style family Thanksgivings and I think this would make a great side. We actually made a turkey a day or two later and had the leftovers with it and it pairs wonderfully.

I haven't eaten this in what, 10 days or so? And here lovemy99's pictures are making my mouth water. The meatloaf looks fabulous and the salad looks devine!

Thanks for chiming in!
