Were you shooting 87's out of it? Probably to light for the 99A.

Just a personal preference I guess but I'd rather throw a 100 gr pill at a big buck than an 87 gr. If you place it right I guess it don't matter.

Do you get the bullet to pass right through or just one sided?

Only endearing thing about a 99A in 250 for a right-hander is the 250 chambering.. for the money, I'd sooner buy a new model 14 in 250.

Just me, those 99A's have always rubbed me the wrong way as far as looks.

No, Joe. I tried several different 100 grain loads and I just couldn't make it shoot. I have an EG, an R, a G, and the 1920. All have the 1-14 twist and I can't find an 87 grain bullet that won't shoot well.

So far I've killed 4 deer with 87's and not one has gone more that 10 yards.

Here's the last one that just ran in a tight circle and droped exactly where he was shot.

I love that picture. I'd say that 87 grainer went completely through from the blood in the background.

87grainers work great in a 1-10" ROT 99A. Remington 87gr SP.

Nothing like dead deer pics to get the blood pumping! Thanks guys. It seems I'm killing deer vicariously through y'all of late!

I've passed on a few 99As over the years due, back then, to a total disinterest in Savages. I wish now I would've sprung for one of those $250 guns!

I bought a 99A several years ago. Trigger a little hard. Wood not as delicate as the old premils, but it shoots great and loves the 100gr. .250's. It's also the only 99 I have that can be scoped with something that'll reach out. The 2.5 Lymans on stiths for my eyes are not a whole lot better than a Lyman tang sight for accuracy.
