Had one in .300S. No name plate under the forearm. Sqweeler, that is a skreemer.

Them 2 holes on each side of the cocking indicator....they supposed to be there?

Very nice rifle. I especially like the name plate. It provides really cool yet discrete providence. Not yet had anything like it or anything worth lettering but do enjoy seeing such things.

Is a letter the only way to determine if these older ones were factory D/T?

It all depends on where you are in the learning curve. I sent one back that had these holes (it did not have the roll stamping on the side of the receiver). Now, I would have kept it. It was a minty gun frown

It is actually a Belding & Mull Mount. There are two additional holes tapped underneath the rear sight. And yeah it was done at the factory.
