i watched this on and off for two days. at the end i was wishing it was my gun being sold (mine is NIB)or
that i could contact to runner up bidder. they must have had deep pockets and got into a pissin match. i don't know when you would see this price again.

for the same money and just a quick pick i would have bought that pretty marlin anniversary with the silver and gold receiver or maybe a browning 65 high grade.
so if any body wants a NIB i'll go $100 less. don't hurt yourself banging on the keyboard to reach me.

Keep an eye out. Write down the serial number. It may be posted again in a month or so. I have seen what appear to be some shill operations going on at Gunbroker running up the perceived values.

38-55 Octagon is not all that common but $800 has been the average for quite a while.

kelbro..... so how does the shill work? they boost the perceived price up and put it back out and hope they have inflated the market? how much did it cost them in GB fees to accomplish this (sorry don't know GB fees). then set the line for some sucker? also boost the starting bid? is there a way for GB to detect shill people or don't they have time? either way sounds like they are fishing for someone with deep pockets. i guess it's all plausible, just disappointing in the human race.

Remember the saying...."You can't cheat an honest man".

If you only pay what you consider an honest price for something (or what you are "willing" to pay), then it really doesn't matter how much someone else paid....or possibly "will" pay.

It's when you are trying to "stick it to the seller" and pay an inflated price because you "think" it's more valuable that it is that you can get "taken" by a con game. The "shill game" only works when someone sees the earlier price and then later tries to "stick it to" an apparently unwary seller when the item is offered later.

You won't get taken if you pay a fair price....and no more. You WILL get taken when you go into a deal with larceny in your heart.

I always wondered if there was some shill game going on at some of the auction sites. This posted auction would make it highly suspect.

It is possible that some collectors where just trying to round out there collections.If that was the case then the winning bid may not have been that outlandish.
