I own both. Bottom-line my opinion is if you want to put a scope on it then go wth the Marlin. However, if you want a lighter weight levergun to pack in the woods with open sights, then the Winnie is the gun to have. Like I said, I have both, that might be the answer for you as well.

I'd take a Marlin ,because I need a scope but I have to admit the Winchester feels great.

I have both and like them for different reasons. Most of my 94's are in .32Win and most of my 336's are in .35Rem. Wins are good for open sights and Marlins are good for scopes. I use shotgun scopes on my Marlins. I do think that the Marlins are stronger. The 1895's in .45-70 or .444 are a real hoot to shoot.

I would not think that now a good time to sell old Wins. I have been buying. Try to keep yours and buy a Marlin. Life is good.

I went thru the Winchester phase, got rid of the last one not long ago. I had a 1953 94, a couple of AE 94 30-30's, a 307 and a 356. I now have a 336 30-30 and an 1895 GG.

Winchesters carry great without a scope. Marlins are alot easier to tear down and clean, and I would say that my Marlins are more accurate than the Winchesters. The exception would be the 307 and 356, they were both pretty accurate.

My Guide Gun will run with most bolt guns, at 100 yards, as far as grouping goes.

Marlins feel like heavy unbalanced clubs to me compared to a 94.

I love the M94 and over time will collect more. It just feels so natural to point and shoot a M94.

If you gotta have a scope do a pistol grip BLR.

I own several of both and can't think of a bad thing to say about either rifle, with the exception of the Winchesters made in the years following 1964. My two favorites are a 100+ year old 26" octagonal barreled '94 with tang sight and my Marlin .444S.
The BLRs are great too, but don't have the iconic appeal (to me) of the Ameican made lever guns - and is there anything more American than a Winchester or Marlin lever gun?

I like your patriotism. I agree about their iconic style and handling. I'll always collect the M94.
I also like collecting US Springfields too...

I have both and it is easy for me.Unscoped/Winchester..Scoped/Marlin..My '94 is every bit as accurate as my Marlins..

I had the bug for a Marlin 30-30 a while back. I found a bargain on a like new 30AW. It worked o.k., but it just didn't have the feel of a Winchester. I sold it, but nobody's getting my 94! I do have a 1894 Marlin in 44 mag. Now that is one fun gun. If you really want the best lever ever produced, get a 99 Savage.

I would not get rid of a top ejecting M94 for an ordinary 336. Now if there was something special about the 336 - and that would have to mean either old pre-CB safety, or a high value new one, but most newer chamberings aren't trigger trippers for me. The smooth top, straight up ejectors make very appealing rifles for 30-30 work use. Moose, caribou, fur; it plain works well when pointed well.

I, on the other hand, just sold a m94 (post 64) to buy an undrilled/tapped '49 336SC. I already had a 336as with a scope and just liked the heft of the 336 over the 94.

Also had Winchesters years ago ... loved 'em. They're all gone now ... but to good homes like my sons.

Have a half dozen Marlins now and I do prefer them to Winchester.

My latest lever rifle however, IS a 'new' Winchester Model 1895, saddle ring carbine, wooden top-stock, 30-40 Krag.

Also hoping to get a 'new' Winchester Model 1892, take-down, 24" barrel, 44-40.

I have a Marlin 336 in .35 Remmington (1967 RC) and a Winchester AE in 30-30. The Marlin is scoped and the Winchester is not. I would say I prefer the Marlin although I also have a Winchester model 1892 in 38-40 (1921) that I think a lot of.

shot my first deer with a Marlin, my first coyote with a Win. I own several of both, I have an emotional connection with my First Winchester and would sooner lose a limb than my Winny, but I got to say I have been very pleased with every Marlin I have/had both are great guns both for diffrent reasons,

and a Win will slide tight in the split bench seat of a Chevy truck
