Bought mine around a year ago for about $540 with a scope and Weaver mounts. I thought I gave a fair price.

Your rifle's serial number indicates it was probably manufactured in 1957... it's still a "pre-mil", but just barely.

For an "F" in .308 in excellent (i.e., "like new") condition, I'd say it's worth somewhere between $650 and, in a stretch, up to $900 plus shipping. I wouldn't pay $900 or it, but some might.

You can try to get $1,000+ for it, but I doubt that you'll get it. What any rifle is worth depends on what someone will pay for it.

almost everyone that does not do this regularly overestimates
condition. Most of us that do this have come to understand that
"there is always something" that knocks these out of the collector category. Once the gun gets into shooter grade, then it's up against lots of modern competition. Like I would rather carry my 77rl than that 99 with a scope.

Yup, I gave $475 for mine two years ago. Only thing wrong with it was the sling eyes. It's gone up in value due to collectible inspector mark and time passed, but not doubled to $900. I'd say $700+ would be a reasonable expectation, but condition condition condition... I think most of the impulsive-cost-be-damned buyers have gone back in their caves to lick their wounds.

Do you have any pictures of your gun? That's definitely the best way to get honest opinions on it.

Prices are often tricky to decipher. There's what the guys will pay around here and then there's what people will pay at auctions - both live and internet. We have all shook our heads at some of the internet auction prices realized. But, it is tricky because the price may not be real (shill bidders for example). The internet auctions can generate bidders who get caught up in the competition of bidding, ego and so on. This often translates to higher prices at auction. Also, many internet auction bidders are short on knowledge, which makes them a different animal from the guys around here wink

Go to Photobucket.com
Posting pictures is easy and you'll need them if you are serious about selling the rifle.

Hello. I would avoid the auction sites since it is only one gun that you are trying to sell. Put an ad in your local trade paper. It will be a lot easier to sell in person than to deal with boxing it up and hoping that nothing goes wrong. Each week, drop another $100 off the price if it doesnt sell. It will eventually.

I think that there is a lot of realistic advice here. I would never ship a gun so I'm not inclined to auction anything. I've heard WAY too many horror stories of broken stocks to even take a chance on that. You may think that you will get more to auction it but, if that stock breaks,...oh well.

Ha, caught red-handed! This is part of the marketing campaign to make JTC inspector marks into the latest rage.

Does it have sling swivels on it?

Nobody has asked that yet.
