hey guys, anybody here use a 50 mm scope on a ruger 77 mk ii? i just ordered a vortex viper 3.5-10x50 and was curious if i need to run the high or extra high rings...i have the medium rings now i believe?(standard rings that come w/ the gun)..but i dont think thatll be enough clearance for my gun..its a 300 wm w/ the standard 24 inch barrel..any input would be appreciated!

Buy some Burris or Leupold mediums, they are taller, better, and will clear a 50mm.

With my 42mm scope, there is about a 1/4" gap between the scope bell, and my barrel, on my 338.

that should be more than enough clearance for a 50 mm scope wouldnt it be?itll prolly be close to touching but as long as it isnt making any contact im good w/ that..thanks for checkin that for me!

so if i went w/ leupold high rings i should be more than good for clearance just to be on the safe side

Yeah, but the stock will be running along your jaw...depends on how much of a cheek weld you prefer. I would go lower if I could, but my scope has a large eyepiece, and the bolt won't clear it with lower rings.

im w/ u on having it be as low as i can get it..but if it comes down to needing higher rings for clearance/bolt clearance, etc, im gonna buy one of those comb raising kits to make it more comfortable to get a solid cheek weld..but if i dont need that i would prefer not to do so

I don't want to steer you one way or another. I just know I had a 50mm, Loopy on my Ruger 223, and it cleared with the Burris mediums...

Leupolds are nice too, a little slimmer maybe, but they cost more. Just don't buy the Millets...

Burris used to make a Signature version for the Rugers that were sweet, but they dropped them for some reason.

that would be cool if they still made the signatures for it..but if you can remember off the top of your head how much clearance did you have on your m77 w/ the 50 mm scope? and what scope was it? just for a reference

Don't remember. Shoot me your email and I will send you a pic of my 338 when it had a 40mm loopy. Don't feel like loading it into photobucket.
