The 270 Win-- "Still Not Working After All These Years" "The Non-Rifleman's Cartridge" With 110 TTSX's it will only go 3450 whereas the 257 Wby will drive 100's at 3600. With 130's it will only go 3100 but the 7RM will get you 10 more grains of bullet and 150 fps. With 150 Partitions it will only penetrate side to side on a moose. With the 130 TTSX it will only penetrate about 36" of Eland. In a 6 pound NULA it will only shoot around 1/2" groups. Lousy!

You may send yours to me for disposal.

Half empty, half full, same glass. The .270 has lasted for so long because, it works. Just with factory 130's, it's a formidable weapon. The handloader can make it sing all sorts of different songs, suitable for juat about anything. It may not always be the top choice, but it'll always be in the running. It's a mistake to sell it short.

IMHO.

Same thing was said about the 30/06 in print about 20 years ago (and probably much before that - maybe in 10 year increments). People get unimaginative and bored sometimes and info just gets recycled - kind of like how we've been reading the "Deer Rifles for the West" since we were kids. In about 10 years we'll hear how the 300WSM is too big for deer and is just a slightlly faster 30/06, so really isn't ideal for the big stuff (or really anything from the 7mm-08 on up to anything short of the .338).

I never really wanted a .270 Winchester. For our first anniverary my wife suprised me with one. Now, if I had to trim my small battery to just one, it would be a .270.

IMHO, a 270 Winchester with a 22" barrel is the ideal scabbard rifle.
140 Accubonds at 2950fps are just made for open country deer.

Bought my one and only 270 the year I graduated highschool and see absolutely no reason to 'upgrade'.

I've never owned a 270 and probably never will. Just seemed boring, you know it's going to work on anything you're likely to run into, which is no way a bad thing. My brother has hunted with one since he was old enough to carry a rifle and I've watched him kill lots of deer and elk. I can't remember even one instance where a larger caliber would've made a difference.

If there is any proof of a man in a hunt it is not whether he killed a deer or elk but how he hunted it.

270 win is my favorite cartridge and have shot it since 1973 or 74. for 25 years a ruger m77 in 270 was the only cf rifle i had. killed everything alaska had to offer except coastal browns and musk ox. gonna kill an elk with mine this november. the 270 must be a great cartridge because it"s been around for years and continues to get the job done.

For several years now, the 270 has been a good back up to my 7x57s.

No need for a 7X57 when you have a 270 WCF...

Even though the .270 WinChester is ONE of the best selling of all time,
lET ME SEE YALLS OPINIONS..everyone has one

Must have been swampman. He HATES the .270 Win.

Funny story.....My father-in-law is a great guy. He was a marine tank-killer in the Korean war and came back and shot the M1 Garand in service rifle competitions for the marines. One time he told me that the .270 Win was real fast but the bullets turn sideways after they leave the barrel. I didn't argue with him.....but I wonder where he got that idea from??

I have to agree with the quote, the 25-06 or 260rem is plenty big for any deer, and I like to have a 280 or larger for elk or moose hunting.
