Don't forget that you have to wash the cases out if you shoot black powder.

I like to do my hunting BEFORE I pull the trigger!

I have owned three.
Two were my own project and one used (the first owned).
The first taught me that the key factor with this conversion was a total reliable feed.
Gun number one was not 100% reliable with feed in the field.
The two later custom guns were done by a gunsmith who had proven experience with this conversion. Thus, flawless feed.
All this took place 30 to 35 years ago.
As a side issue within the past six years I built up a 45-90 on a large Martini action. This was a 450 Martini Henry that was later government modified to 303 British ( small firing pin for high pressure cartridge).
The ballistics are certainly an improvement over the 47-70.No problem with modern higher intensity loads.Research will reveal that modern cases and components put it into the 458Win class.
But I wonder is it worth all the project effort when a new off the shelf Ruger No 1 delivers top performance.
