Just wondering who has a Ruger 77/22 mag, and what they think of it? Ammo recommendations, or tricks to make it more accurate.

Mine needed no tricks .... shoots great, likes CCI Maxi-Mags. Many here boast regarding Win ammo, but its not a favorite of my rifle.
I have the VMBZ version which has the heavier barrel and laminated stock.
Good Luck

I have one that likes the winchester ammo and the cci's, it has a rifle basix trigger and is the blued /wood gun,Leupold VX 2 3-9X40..Shoots very well
There are a lot more ½" rifles than ½" shooters.

Just sold an All-Weather with boat-paddle stock to Brother Dave that is an honest 1/2" @ 50yds shooter. It liked Winchester 40gr HP's....

I do. I've got the laminated stock, target gray SS heavy barrel version...had it ever since they came out, and have shot it bunch. It's one of my favorite rifles. Superb quality...big rifle feel. I shoot the CCI 40 grain Total Metal Jacket round in mine. I have zero complaints about the rifle.

Not a 22 mag but a 77/22LR. The rifle did Ok, but not as well as I initially expected. A 0.007 shim in the bolt snugged up a headspace issue and it became a nail driver. All will likely be ammo specific.

Mine has a replacement sear piece from Brownells. I can't remember the manufacturer. It really made the trigger nice.
In order of accuracy from best to worst; Remington Premier Accu Tip V-Mag 33gr. 3/4" @ 100 yds. Winchester Supreme 30gr. hp 1" @ 100 yds. CCI Maxi Mag TNT 30gr. 1 1/8" @100 Winchester silver box 1 1/2" @ 100

Thanks for the replies folks. I just ordered one, so will post how she shoots later. I ordered the regular wood stock and blued barrel.

I've got an all weather boat paddle one. Have had it 10+ years and the few times I've put it on paper it's done well. CCI Mini Mags
The factory trigger was AWFUL, replaced the sear with one from Volquartsen and it was a night and day difference.

Just wondering who has a Ruger 77/22 mag, and what they think of it? Ammo recommendations, or tricks to make it more accurate. I had one for a couple years. It shot best with CCI Maxi Mag +V 30 grainers. WW 40 grain JHP were second. It'd generally go between 1 and 1.25 inches at 100 yards for 5 shots. Once I got the range, soda cans at 200 were in serious danger but it'd take a few shots to "walk it in." With any of the Ruger 77/xx rifles, the trigger is the main drawback. Probably the best solution I've found is a Volquartsen sear. It comes with a lighter replacement spring. I tossed both factory and Vol. springs and got something lighter yet. About a pound an a quarter is as good as it gets. I tried a Jard (?) aftermarket trigger ... I wasnt' happy with the results and went back to the factory setup. The firing pin would "follow down" sometimes. Not good!

I worked my 77 factory trigger and it's wonderful at about 1.25 lbs. I stoned the sear and ground a little off of each end of the spring. With about 5 trial and error assemblies (mostly focused on pruning down the spring) I got it right where I want it. Those Ruger trigger are some of the easiest to work on the market. If one has not skills though, he might be better off buying a replacement.

I have a stainelss/boat paddle 77/22 in .22 Magnum that gets a workout every year on prairie dogs in South Dakota. It shoots 1 MOA pretty reliably with W-W Super-X 40 gr. HP silver box ammo. I have a newer Weaver K-6 on it.
That rifle has killed at least 2000 PD's plus a few other varmints. It is my favorite rifle for PD shooting, and doesn't rile up a town of educated rodents like a centerfire can.
The .22 WRM works great on PD's at 150 yards or less if you know its trajectory.

I have the heavy barrel laminate stock version in target grey. Tack driver with either Winchester 34g supremes or Remington 33g vmax. The trigger breaks clean just the way it came from the factory, about 4 to 4 1/2 lbs.

I've run mine for about 6 years now. 77/22mag, walnut stock, action is bedded, barrel is floated, trigger adjusted to 1 1/2 pounds. Will put a box of Remington Premiums in a 1" hole all day. Running an older Leupold 16x on it. Had one just like it years ago that wouldn't shoot worth a chit,,no matter what I did to it.

I dont care what anyone may say..whether it's $300 or $3000...a 77/22 in LR or Mag is hard to beat. I've had close to a dozen in all sorts of variations..absolutely NO problems with any of them and all shot well OR great with little or NO tweaking. My only problem with one now , is I dont have one.

I shoot the CCI 40 grain TMJ in mine, and it shoots lights out for what it is. I love the rifle.
