Guys,
What wildcats have been done on the 22/250 and particularly in 30cal?

Looking at perhaps a 30-250 or 30-250AI as a means to use an old target barrel with 1:14.5" twist and shoot it as a varmint cartridge with 110gr V-Max.

I dont want the 308Win's capacity, my smith has no 300Savage reamer and I'd like to keep the neck long-ish for the odd commercial cast projectile.

Thoughts?
Cheers...

Neck it to .25 and give it a 30 degree shoulder with a neck length of .275".

But I'm a tight wad wildcatter! grin

Using a 22/250AI or 22/250 parent alows honing out a Lee die set for a cheap FL resizer.

6mm/250 and 6.5/250 are the ones i think would be most practical

How 'bout 30-221 Fireball:

?

The other thing you could do is get the chamber cut w/ a 22-250 AI or 250 AI reamer and then just recut the throat w/ a 30 cal pilot reamer?

30 cals should all hold 75-100 grains of slow burning gunpowder. The largest diameter one can neck this case to and still get useful velocity is..... 22! By useful I mean over 3000 fps with hunting weight bullets. Less than that is boring to me. We rifle looneys have been cashing speed for hundreds of years, don't get the trends toward itty bitty and SLOW cartridges. YMMV

That's exacty what I'm considering. I find it odd that shooters get their knickers in a knot for the 6.5Creedmore, 6.5x47Lapua and 6mm derivative, to some extent the 6mmBR and 7.62x39 ... yet in the 22/250 case is adequate case capacity to push a light 30cal pill (or 6.5mm or 7mm) quick enough, good brass is available via Lapua yet it's not really been wildcatted other than 20cal, 6mm ... and let's not forget 0.257". grin
Cheers...

My knickers get in a knot over a pre 64 Westerner in 264 WinMag. The other 6.5's fall way short. My favorite 22-250 wildcat is the 22-250AI.

What 30 cal bullets will the 22-250 case push to 3000 or better yet 3500 fps? Round ball maybe?

Sounds like ya'll are taling about what would be pretty much a 30 Remington. There's a reason why it is obsolete.

Get yourself a 308 Win and forget about the 30-250.

IIRC, isn't the Creedmore basically a 6.5/250AI? I thought Mule Deer had posted about making Creedmore cases from 22/250s.

Look at the 6XC. Norma makes brass for it...very nice balance of power for that case.

Luck....is the residue of design...

I don't think you're going to "hone out" a hardened sizing die. Such can be done with certain seating dies, like the Wilson. Sizing dies don't have the same dimensions as the chamber and are hardened. Sizing die neck is tighter than a chamber neck.
