We parked the pickups in a semi circle to help break the wind on us...it helped some A look at the ridge we set up on. We ended up having the shoot on the ranch of a good friend of mine and fellow shooting enthusiast, Steve Page who owns and operates Page Whitham Land and Cattle Company. Steve, thank you, my friend! We had 24 Hour members from, Texas, Iowa, Minnesota, Wyoming and Montana show up, brave the elements and let the lead fly.

Ghostwalker the 375 is based off the 408 Chey Tac case.
Kirby's info: 408 Cheyenne Tactical parent case, necked down to 375, shoulder moved forward 50 thou and fireformed to min body taper and sharper shoulder angle. 300 gr.(3400 fps in 32 barrel, est.) to 350 gr. SMK at 3300 fps in 32 barrel(est.)

Regarding John's group, how many total rounds were fired at that distance and was it in the 40 mph wind? Such a group at 1790 yards with the stiff cross wind seems nearly impossible.

bxroads, I would say after 3 or 4 rounds to adjust his dope with a spotter John shot that group. And yes, that is a consecutive 3 shot group in the wind. With the help of the experienced people and the quality of our equipment, everyone including the beginners were making some great hits at distance in those terrible conditions.
I sure learned a lot on this trip. In those winds I would have never even went out to shoot normally. Between what I learned on this trip and the experience I gained, I now know that I can successfully make long range hits in those conditions. This trip was a great learning experience for all!

Thanks Scott, cool pics to say the least...
Cinch, I think you said it best about this being a great learning experience. Maybe it will work for me to come some time if this event happens again. It would have been worth the cost of the trip just to get some pointers on distance and wind from the guys that do it well.

you are welcome. Cinch and I are thinking of putting on a similar shoot later this summer. We will do some talking and figure out the possible location. Somewhere here in NE Wyoming though. Hope to make it happen and maybe we can make the Montana and Wyoming shoots an annual event.

So this Burns guy and his rifles are for real? (grin) I admit I was thinking the same thing when I saw the group but I know enough of the shooters there to be sure it was legit. It looks incredible (and probably a little lucky) for the distance and the conditions. So...we had 6mm, 7mm, 30cal, .375 and .338 in the mix with the varying bullet weights that go with them. Any thoughts on what tends to work "better" in the wind?

I've always figured Burns to be for real. I'm glad he got to prove it with fellow campfire witnesses. Out of curiosity, what was the approximate weight of Burn's rig? I'm guessing it was light enough to hunt with (under 10 lbs) as opposed to a behemoth as most long range rigs are.

So this Burns guy and his rifles are for real? (grin) bx John is for real and a great guy to boot....he was good enough to teach me a bit about hitting rocks at 1200 yards;not in Montana but in Wyoming last October....and that takes some doing. I have seen John shoot, and have no doubt about his ability with a rifle
