Used gun in the local shop got my gears turnin......
Oh you mean one of these
Hope you don't ever need an extractor, they are getting harder and harder to find. Great little rifles though and fun to shoot. Very little recoil and extremely accurate.

My dad and my maternal uncle Bill both had 99 EGs when I was a lad. My uncles' had an old K4 in "Montana Mounts," an early quick detachable mount system made in Livingston MT I think. I confiscated my dads, scoped it (yes, I cringe too now, but that was 30 years ago) and hunted for 20 years with it. Still have it, and take it out now and then.
In my uncle's hands, any standing deer within 300 yards and any runnning deer that gave him a good chance within 150 yards were venison. He used that .300 from around 1950 till 1984, the year he died.
Just purchased a Remington 700 Classic 300 Savage like NIB. Not a mark on it. It had the Leupold standard 2 piece bases which I swapped out for the 2 piece Dual Dovetail bases. I also just purchased a gloss Leupold Vari-X III 2.5-8 which I think will be perfect for this 300 Savage.
I feel that the .300Sav is a light .308Win. I have one in a Mod 99 Sav lever and one in a Mod 181 Rem auto. Probably the best, short action, .30 cal round for the first 1/2 of the 20th century.
Great caliber,Factory velocitys bout 2650 or so with 150 grain bullet.According to an old Speer reloading manual the 308 Winchester was developed because the 300 savage was a little too short for reliable feeding in automatic rifles. Always thought the 300 Savage with 150 grain bullets was just about what the doctor ordered for deer, mild recoil with decent trajectory and velocity to open the bullets up . I use an 8mm JS mauser to pretty much duplicate 300 Savage ballistics running a 150 Sierra and 47 grains of H-4895 for about 2700 FPS and it kills deer just fine .I would expect the 300 savage would do at least as well givin that the .308 bullet 150 grain bullet has a slightly better Sectional than the .323 150 grain bullet.
From a throating standpoint, I gotta think the 300 savage is a better idea than 308 in a 2.8" mag box. Seems like you could get bullets longnosed and slippery (i.e. 155 scenar) throated to kiss at less than 2.8".
I don't know how far off the lands they are, but 155 and 168 grain VLD Bergers do pretty well in my 700 Classic. And they look pretty snazzy seated long in the sharp shouldered little case.
I went from owning three .375 H&H Magnums 10 years ago to a closet with a preponderance of .223, .243, .250, .30-30, .308 etc. The .30-06's are the "big" rifles nowadays.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!
