I finished scraping sanding the second coat of epoxy, and now will be applying a light coat to the areas that I sanded through.

The cheekpiece came out ok on the second sanding (no cut throughs) so I've been applying a few coats of linspead to it, to encourage me as to what the final finish will look like, and, it'll look nice, very nice.

As to epoxies, you can use acraglass, but don't use the cheap 5,15, 30 minute epoxies from the local hardware stores, get some good stuff.

You also don't need to mix up big gooping batches of the stuff and glop it on, as I've found. 1/2 oz for the first coat is likely plenty, for the second batch, a quarter sized blob of resin, and an appropriate qty of hardner is fine.

If you like the look of an oil finished gun, and want a stable stock, this is the finish. Also the hardening of the wood surface aids getting a very smoothly sanded surface. If you don't put on too much epoxy, a wet sand with 220, 320 and 400 gr will get you right down there, then time for many coats of oil.

For the first time ever I got away with a single coat of epoxy... no sand-throughs at all! Usually I cannot pay attention long enough to keep from screwing it up in at least one spot.
