Does everyone have their flies yet? I know about all the AK folks, Boots, macrabbid, and Castnblast have them, but what about you other guys?

Did you stagger the shipments to match each member's lateness re the submission deadline?

Have them? I've got half of them wet already. The trout fishing is really slow. Lots of rain and brown river water. I got zero yesterday. The day before I got 2 nice rainbows about 14". One was a shiny new hatchery fish. The other was a dark colored one that had to be in the river for a while. Nothing was hatching, but I got both fish on the little mosquito larva from the match book of flys. I dragged the little fry with the egg sac a while too. I figure on throwing a couple at a time, but I will feel a whole lot better when I see fish rising.

Scott Thornley callled earlier today bragging and claiming first blood as he was catching bluegills on his swap flies while we were talking...
Mark Begich, Joaquin Jackson, and Heller resistance... Three huge reasons to worry about the NRA.

Fits right in with the theme- two stages of the same pest. No kidding! I just heard that there is a postal strike here now as well. At this rate I'll be tossin dynamite to open the ice so I can fly cast these things. lol

Hmmm. I'm working on my terrestrials for the 2013 swap now. Not completely last in and perhaps first to catch fish? Love those larva.
I've been holding back but I can no longer contain myself. I am so excited about this batch of bugs! But I think they will all need to go into my fly museum. Maybe next time we tie 2 flies - one to save and one to fish! These all look like great patterns for Alaska. I agree with Tea -- the dragon nymph looks perfect for Kalmbach Lake. That looks like a four spot, the Alaska state insect as declared by the legislature. (Though of course most think of course that it is the MsKeeto!) I want adult damsel fly earrings!

People's responses to this sort of thing are so entertaining. I love that Rob P is fishing the MsKeeto larva, and MsKeeto is putting the flies in a shrine.
It reminds me of when AkGrayling caught his first fish. 'Twas a good sized silver salmon, and we canned the whole thing in 1/2 pint jars. Mailed them out as Christmas presents to the relatives. Greatgrandmother ate her right away. Grand Auntie, well, she saved hers. I bet you could find that jar on a prestigeous shelf in her kitchen today.

I too have mixed feelings about using the flies. Part of me wants to put them in a display case, and the (so-far) winning emotion is to go out and use them. But no mixed feeling about losing them to a snag/tree. I will go after them That said, rob's egg sucking bugger went tango uniform after 5 fish. But I don't feel too bad because if a fly has to go, then best it be through wear and tear from fish teeth. And while some pix may make it on FB, what I really need is some email addresses so I can send them directly from Flickr. Scott

My email is in my profile. Like I wrote, my flies are replaceable. Use 'em. A blue damsel would definitely make for commentable earrings. I expect that one with the dubbing would be best, but I wouldn't know.

Not shrine - museum. My establishment does have a loaner policy...as long as there is a photo before it's checked out. Maybe I should call it a Fly Library instead. Another word for it is organized chaos.
