A follow up on my post above, on why I said buy a new one - I shoot a lot, so wear out strings, cables, and parts every couple of years. Replacing strings and cables isn't that bad, but at some point you'll have a difficult, if not impossible, time finding replacement parts; it seems that the parts always tend to fail a couple weeks before the season starts...

I no longer use it for big game, but I use it now and then for small game. Don't use my Grandfather's bows anymore for fear they'll break. This is my modern high-tech laminated longbow I've used this last decade. It's my main bow for everything, except for bow fishing. For that I favor my 20 year old Critter Gitter.
