This has been an interesting posting. We have learned a lot about the Savage levers from a collecting stand point but not so much on the internals.

The sharing of information is what has kept our Forum alive. smile

I agree with Rick...

and will go a step further to say that just b/c its thinner does not mean its dinked with... check out the "Savage part difference over the years" post that is stickied near the top of the forum (that may not be quite the exact name) and you will see how almost every part changed in some way over the years...

Drew--if you go back to page one, Calhoun asked me if it had been ground down. My answer was no. I don't believe the hammer(striker) was ever "dinked with" as you call it.

I believe that Savage changed the width of the hammer(striker)to make this design safer.

Not as many Savages run through my hands as yours, but I would like to know when the Striker sear (hammer) width changed???

I am now fascinated with all the design differences. Now I have
a lever project going on, and I have seen the sticky at the top.All these differences have raised more questions for me than put them to rest. I am challenged by this!! I love to gain new knowledge.

Your input has been much appreciated.

John

I have a variety of rats that I don't mind removing the buttstocks, not too many from the 1910-1917 range, but some from earlier. When I get time in the next couple of weeks I'll go through and look at some of them. Also have several from 1919-1920 that I can look at also.

Rory, check the bolt lenth while your at it.

I would guess that some of these changes happened at the 90,000 and post WWI time frame.
