I mow 3 acres and need to buy a mower that will get it done. Looked a Ex mark and Hustlers. I'm not sure and its a sizable investment.

I used to think Ex-mark were top of the line, but my neighbor has big issues with his blowing hydro pumps. he has gone thru 5 pumps in 4 years. No lie.

Walker mowers. Just get ready to drop $10,000+
They are bad ass though. Thats what all the pro's use around here. For good reason I am sure.

I'd find out what the best dealer in the area carries and recommends because you might need good service no matter what you get.

A guy down the road had the same issues with his and bought a Dixie Chopper (which supposedly were nowhere near an Ex-mark). He's been very happy with it so far.

I have had a Dixon for the past 5 years. Works great. I'd get one again. Was a decent price too.

I just bought a 60" Gravely ZT HD for $4800. This is their entry level commercial grade and should outlast me.
Lawn maintenance is a year round deal down here and the pros around here all use Gravely's, Exmarks and Dixie Choppers.

I have 42" Ariens (sp) I really like it I mow about three acres with it. my biggest gripe I have against it is the seat it is low backed and it rely does a job on my lower back. Would I buy another one, yes, but the new one would have a larger deck and a different seat. I'll never own anything but a zero turn mower again.

Could have got the 60" for $100 more but the contour of my yard and around the grain bins wouldn't work well with the bigger deck. I've mowed once with it so far and really like it. It should outlast me too.

It should outlast me too. I went back and forth between 52" and 60". My Kubota belly mower has a 60" and I was afraid I wouldn't like going smaller. I needed the speed and maneuverability of the ZT though, it was just taking to long to cut with the tractor.

Rick, maybe a dumb question, but seeing as you're in TN, is your yard flat or on a hill? I had to trade in my zero turn for a tractor when I moved to Tennessee, because if you get a zero turn on a hill, they get real squirrely.

I bought a Scag last April and have not had any problems yet. 52" and I cut 5 acres.

I have an X-Mark 44" and have used it like a bush hog, 4th set of blades, 19 hp Kemosabe engine, no problems to date. Bought it out of state (Miss.) and saved on the taxes. If you're blowing hyd pumps, better pay attention to those filters.

another one to take a look at would be Jacobsen- there's a golf course down the road about 10 miles owned by the county. They use Jacobsen exclusively and haven't been able to break them so far. There made here in the USA (Charlotte, NC); division of Textron.

I am in the market as well (I have 1 acre and lotsa trees) and am thinking pretty hard about the John Deere ZT. My dad just bought a JD 2305 lawn tractor and man, is that thing built well. JD might cost a little more in general, but you get more as well.
I have thought about the Toro a little too. But it just doesnt seem to be as tough.
