Since 1961 the 180 gr, 308 Partition has worked for me and several other hunters in our party. The PT Works the same way every time at every distance. Elk hate them

First 20 years or so elk hunting used mainly Win 180grn Power Points with maybe a box or 2 of Silvertips thrown in.. Last 10 years or so Federal Premium with 180grn Partitions.
Sticking with the Partitions but can't say I ever had a problem
with any of them.

In my 30-06 I've loaded 180 Partitions and 180 Accubonds for elk. Wish I could say I'd killed an elk with either. I did kill a nice buck with the 180 AB through shoulder bone and out the opposite flank (dark liver blood). Good penetration there.

I smacked an elk a hair too far back with a 180 Partition (my goof)and he ran off a little ways and bedded, but I got him...other than that, everyone I shot with the 180 NPT went down very fast'and a couple were at the 450 yard marker or thereabouts...I shot them from 300 Win and Weatherby...the 165 Bitterroot started at 3250 from a long-throat 300 Win is a bomb;lotsa damage...I'd expect a Swift or NF to be similar.

The 165 NPT from the 06 works well;and the 200 gr NPT seems to penetrate forever.

First elk I ever saw shot was at about 350 yards with a 30/06 and plain old WW factory 150 Power Point;chest hit, his knees buckled and that was that...

I'm not sure I have a fovorite in 30 cal;lots of stuff seems to work well. smile

Although I use my 300 H&H for elk (180 TTSX) my 06' is my backup and I've loaded 168 TTSX's for it so I guess that would be my vote.

When a coworker asked me what I could load for him for an elk hunt, the 165 Interbond came to mind, lets just say I got some of the meat that year, was delicious, too.

My favorite for 20 years was the Nosler partition bullet in the 180 grn, then went to the 200 grn. I still think it is an excellent bullet.

My new favorite is the 200 grain AccuBond. In a WSM or Wby, it works very effectively.
