We have one in the arsenal. It has been electroless nickel plated and put in the synthetic Ramline stock. Its rough on deer with the 120 grain Nosler BT

If the bore is good, up to $300. I think that you still need to put another $100+/- into the Kimber sporterized Swedish Mausers for a better trigger and a cock-on-opening kit. Remember that the "stainless" is really electroless nickle plating and that the barreled actions are from the whole 49 year production span.

i wouldnt bother with the cock on opening kit but one of my first centerfires was a SMLE so running one is pretty well ingrained......
ive currently have a cut down SMLE, a sporterized 1895 Chilean Mauser in 7x57 and a custom M1917 in 338-06 as well as having/had the normal assortment of rifles from current makers from Savage to the current Kimbers.....i switch between them without notice for normal hunting.....my wife cant stand a cock on closing gun though cause she runs a bolt different than i do cause she never encountered one before she knew me.....
wouldnt want one for a dedicated target rifle or any gun thats gonna see more time on a bench than in field positions....

I agree the cock on close is no big deal and our Kimber Swede already had a Timney trigger installed when it was acquired.
I would check close because the one you are looking at may already have one too.

Used to see Kimber 6.5s everywhere about 10 years ago, they also made them in 308. Now you seldom if ever see them, I handled one in 280 awhile back, but it was a Mauser 98.

I have the literature from Kimber of Oregon from the time they were offering sporterized Swedish Mausers. In 1995 they offered the 6.5x55 that used the original barrel with the military sights removed, recontoured, shortened to 22 inches and recrowned. I don't believe they offered new barrels in 6.5x55. They also offered the Model 96 in other cartridges with new barrels: .22-250, .308, .243, and 7-08. Interestingly, these are high pressure rounds, but I have never heard of any problems. Does anyone know of one blowing up?
As someone noted above, they also offered similar sporterizing on Model 98 Mausers. The cartridges were: .220 Swift, .257 Roberts, .270 Win., .280 Rem., .30-06 Sprg., 7mm Rem. Mag., .300 Win. Mag. and .338 Win. Mag.
I'm guessing they did more Model 96's than 98's because I have seen a few of the former and the topic comes up with some regularity, but not so with the latter.
