I need to do a trigger swap on my Ruger M77 MKII. It is a 204 Ruger that I think has lots of potential, the trigger is way heavy for a walking varminter. My thought is that it would be a lot easier to just replace the trigger with a Timney or Rifle Basix set. Have any of you done a trigger swap? I am mechanicaly inclined but have not swaped out a trigger. Do these triggers come with instructions?
Have to be OUT THERE!

If you are truly mechanically inclined (not BSing) you'll find the Timney an easy swap. Takes a few minutes to file the safety pad on the trigger, but it's a straightforward procedure. I've no experience with the Rifle Basix and the MK II, but I suspect it's much the same as the Ruger design demands a similar approach.
Suck bullets simply suck.

I'd try a trigger job on the factory trigger before spending the money on a custom.Try this link http://www.centerfirecentral.com/77trigger.html

Not as intimidating as it might sound. I'd opt for the Timney.

I've done both brands, its a pretty easy swap. There is another outfit called Spec Tech that makes a good one too. The factory unit is easy to adjust too, just don't get too carried away.

I have 2 Rifle Basix on Remmys. One is decent, one is creepy and I don't like it.
On a Ruger, I would just buy a low power spring.

Put a Rifle Basix in my son's Ruger. Easy swap and no fitting required.

I have a Timney on a Vanguard and a Rem 700.
The Rem 700 had a RBasix in it when I got it back from the smith and I had some major slam fire issues with it. Ended up being a bad ordeal with the smith and has since left a bad taste in my mouth.
My two Timneys are great though, around 2lbs and 1.5lbs on the other. Easy swap on both.
I'd go Timney, If you order off of their website they will adjust the poundage for you before they send it.
You can do it. I'm mechanically inclined myself. Don't get in a hurry and you'll be golden.

Ditto, Timney easy to install. Just did a Remy 700 with great results. Have a Timney on an older Ruger tang safety and it has given 20 plus years of great service.

I have run a couple of Timneys. One on a 700 and the other on a Tang 77. Both have been great. No problems what so ever.

The factory trigger is easy to fix with a little honing.

Seems you are getting equal opinions both ways - I love my Timney. Have installed both and a few dozen Jewels on model 700's and 70's. The Timney is the closest to the Jewel in my opinion. Good luck - I'm sure either will suit you fine.

The Timney is sweet on a M77. As mentioned, just a little file work is required.

Timney's best efforts, are easily Ruger based................
