I am interested in pics and comments on the Barnes TTSX 80 grain bullet when used in the 243 Winchester on game.
I recently bought a Rem 7600 243 from a gentleman on the fire and will be using it for deer this year. I will be using the Barnes Bullet at about 3150 FPS .I am thinking this will work great on deer for either 20 yard shots or 250-300 yard shots.

Cool rig- should be very fun. No pics?? I started using the 85 hpbt Sierras and am getting complete pass throughs with perfect wound channels and exits (nothing fist sized) in my 6mm Rem. Not trying to change your bullet choice but reaffirming you should be more than fine. Here is a link to a cow elk taken with that bullet from a 243wsm - Courtesy the do it yourself hunter.

No pics yet as my girlfriend is out of state visiting her relatives and she wont be back for another 9 days . I sure am looking forward to getting it and trying the loads out though.Although the load I mention at that velocity(bout 3150 fps)only has about 1000 ft pounds of energy at 3oo yards i am thinking it will do the job if I do mine as it is about tissue damage and bullet placement .I wont be taking a 300 yard shot unless just about everything is just right IE shot angle ,Deer standing still ,good rest etc.
I was just interested in a low recoildeer round and also interested in the Rem Pump. Looking forward to comments and pics from others regarding the barnes bullets and the 243 on game .

I put an 85 grain TSX in at the lower spot and it exited at the upper spot. Two ribs on the way in, two ribs when it left the chest. Never touched the spine, but travelled along side the cervical spine. Quarter sized holes in and out. No recognizable lung tissue left in the chest., heart ruptured open and loose in the chest.

Maybe three drops of blood on the outside of the deer. The omentum sucked up into the hole through the diaphragm, and when BP hits zero instantly the hole in the neck can't hardly bleed.

If I had seen the deer underneath the doe in the middle when I took this picture it would have died too.

Yes, Degen I bought this from a super nice and knowledgable Guy out of Minnesota ,guy even threw in an old gun case so it would be legal for my girlfriend to have in the car !By the way Degen I am going to be using a Browning folding knife on my deer this year !
Dave, nice photos and explanation of performance. You wouldn,t happen to know a stand up guy In Minnesota that would do such a thing as throw in a gun case unexpectedly as a bonus as part of a gun deal would you ? Thanks again,Craig

Still waiting for my girlfriend to get back with my rifle as I am anxious to see her ,I want to see my girlfriend as well !
Thanks again Dave for the rifle and thanks to you as well Degen for the Knives.
Sure thought with all the X bullet users on the board that there would have been more responses by now.
Perhaps I should have titled the post "243 Winchester no good as a deer rifle and Barnes bullets stink as game bullets" bet a dollar to a donut I would have had plenty of responses replete with pics !

3400 MV from a .243...

Impact about 100 yards or so...

Impact I'd say was over 3100 without doing math.

Both my youngest son and daughter shoot pre 64 M70 243 fwts loaded with 80 grain TTSX and have had great results on whitetails, muledeer and little pigs.

I should add that as fast and as accurate as my wife's .243 shoots the 80 TTSX with RL-17, it surely has made me think, more than once, about building a rifle around this combo...
