I just posted a large item, (overseas) and the label had provision to include the item (contents). It was a guitar in this case, but are you guys saying that that label is not required or included for internal US postage?

Thanks for your answers)

John

Not through USPS within the U.S.

I always use UPS though.

If it's anything other than a handgun- by all means send it via US mail. I prefer Priority mail with a delivery confirmation number and full insurance.

I used UPS almost exclusively to ship guns for about 20 years until I started using US Mail around 2002.

During the 20 years I used USP they damaged or lost about 5 items- a few of them very expensive rifles. So far, USPS has damaged none and I have probably shipped as many items through them as I did UPS.

As for damage claims- here is the truth about that. NONE of the package carriers - Fedex, UPS or USPS will honor a claim easily. Unless you can prove it was packaged well, according to their specs AND the person on the other end follows the rules for reporting damage- you are screwed.

You'd have more luck filing a claim with FEMA.

The main thing is MAKE SURE you have some way to verify on line in real time when it gets delivered.

So there's no documentation requirements that you're shipping to an FFL, correct?

The FFL will need a copy of an official picture ID with physical address on it for their records.

Terry
Where did that myth come from? Is it state law somewhere? I have not found anything in the FFL regs to that effect and surely that would be useless as "proof" the shipper was who he claimed to be...
