Hello all! I am new to this board, and I need a question answered. I just bought a 336 from a guy in my club. Its chambered for .35 Rem, It has no checkering , and it has a straight grip. I beleive it was made around 1958? Anyway , what does the "RC" stand for? This is a great rifle and I can't wait to shoot it. thanks

RC means "Regular Carbine," as opposed to the SC, or "Sporting Carbine" models, which had a 2/3-length magazine tube.

Congratulations on your purchase!

Thanks all! It's got a 20" bbl. Thats right, a straight grip. I know its an original stock for 2 reasons. 1. I know the guy I bought it from and he says so. 2. It's got the Marlin "bullseye". Is this an "odd" rifle?

Not odd. Just sounds more like a T than an RC.

Gents,

Perhaps you could tell me about this 336RC. It has the gold trigger and a gold saddle ring. The serial # shows it to be manufactured in 1965. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks........Ol' John

HJ, you rifle and dueeast's look like T's to me. RC was always pg stock, I think. T was straight stock, some had a Marlin 100 year medallion. Bbl 20", some later than yours had 18 1/2". Cal. 30-30, 35, 44Mag. Lots had brass saddle ring. Oh, and T model was also called "Texan".

Well, the carbine is marked RC on the barrel..I see any number of RC's on the auction sites with the gold trigger but none with the gold saddle ring. Just wondered if this was a special issue or whatever. Caliber 30-30, straight grip stock, no checkering.

T's just an RC with a straight stock, dueeast. Never noted any bbl. markings on T or on RC, but looked at three RC's just now...'57 model marked Model 336RC, '69 model marked Model 336, crossbolt safe model marked Model336CS. Model markings appear to vary some, but I don't know if a T is marked T.

My 336 RC has a straight stock too, no saddle ring. It was made in 1960. Most other straight stock 336s I've seen are 336T.

xcic , your right! I read in a book that the T stands for the Texas style stock that was available on the 336 rc around the time mine was made (1957/1958) Thanks!

My reading shows T models made 1953-1983. Surprised to find the saddle ring was only a feature for seven years (64-71), if Murray's right. Seems the few T's I've encountered all had the ring.

I have a 336RC in 35 with the straight grip and fancy wood made in 1957. There are a few out there.
