I put a weaver K4 I got in a trade on my Winchester 52c, using the Viani scope bases which are a weaver type rail system.

The scope looks like the top one in the picture

And when I found where it was sighted initially, it was 8" high.Doing the below adjustments did nothing to move the impact point of a decent group, so the scope seems useable.....

I used my fingers to turn the knurled knob, enough so that I could see a gap between the body of the scope block the adjustment is mounted to ( about 2 full turns before I noticed the gap), ie it looks like the knob is just rising on the center screw, not what I suspect is correct to raise the crosshairs.

I assume the center screw just holds the adjustment cap on, and the other flush screw behind the adjustment is for something other than adjusting the crosshairs?

Sorry, no search got me an answer as to how to adjust an old K4.

Thanks

Allen

I've got a couple of those old Weavers mounted on rifles and still use them. The center screw just holds the adjustment dial on. To adjust use your fingers to rotate the whole adjustment dial. The dials will move in and out, up and down as you adjust. That is normal. If you're turning the dials and they are moving but the scope isn't adjusting, most likely the erector tube springs are broken or have taken a set.

Conceputally think of the rifle as being absolutely stable and the crosshairs or scope being moved to the rifle's point of impact.

Thanks

I was afraid it may be fubar for adjustment when I noticed the airgap after 2 rotations and no change of impact.....

I didn't try the windage as it was 1/16th from correct, but it may have the same issues.

What are the smaller flathead screws for, removing the center from the tubes?

Thanks 1minute, I've got the alignment process down, just unsure if what I was turning needed the small screws turned, thinking they may be a lock.....when the knob lifted I was surprised.

Here is a close-up.

What is raising is the dial scribed with markings.
