I just picked up my LH Kimber of Oregon 84 and the super light weight and the sweet handling characteristics are a revelation!
We lefties don't often get rifles like these.
The one big problem with the one I just got is that the safety does not work at all. When I took the BA out of the stock the reason why was obvious. The wire spring (I assume) between the safety lever and the actual safety is missing! I don't know if this part is even available anywhere but if it isn't too complex I'd make a new one. I don't have any idea what this wire would look like though. If one of you folks with a Kimber of Oregon rifle would be so kind as to take a pic of yours that would be immensely helpful and greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Wow!
The stock weighs 18.3 oz. and the complete rifle minus mount and scope weigh in at 5 lbs 5.5 oz.!
Add the 13 oz Minox ZA5 1.5-8x32 and whatever the Talley LW's weigh and we're at ~6.25 lbs.

It is called a safety plunger spring. I highly doubt there is a difference between the Oregon 84 and the Current Kimber crop. It is a $5 spring at most. I would take it to a local smith. They will have a spring sitting on the shelf that will work.

The safety on these K of O 84's is completely different than the present Kimber 84's. Here's a few pics. I need the wire spring which connects the large rotary thumbpiece on the tang to the small cylinder directly behind the trigger.

Wow Jim, that is exactly what I needed!
Looks like I have a machining job ahead of me.
Do you know of any parts sources for these rifles?
Thanks a million!!

Unfortunately, no, which is one reason I'm thinking of retiring mine. The one link in the post above may be helpful or you can peruse gunbroker for someone offering Kimber parts and maybe contact them?
BTW, go back and try those direct links again, I fixed them to take you straight to hunt101.com. They are REALLY BIG pictures now.

Coopers use a near identical setup for their safety, if they would sell you the rod and spring. I would be surprised if it didn't fit since Cooper used to work for Kimber before starting Cooper FA.

Excellent idea Drover, I'll call Cooper tomorrow.
If they won't sell me one I'll try to turn my own. Should be able to make this thing.

Update.
I turned a prototype on my lathe and combined with a hardware store spring the safety now works perfectly.
Jim, those pics were invaluable! I cannot thank you enough!

Very glad I could help. A little karma came back to me with this effort. Last weekend I had my Kimber out and it was stringing vertically and just not grouping well, something it never did. When I took it out of the stock for pictures I discovered the action screws were not very tight. Probably would never have checked that had I not taken these pictures. So I re-tightened them with my new FAT torque wrench to about 50 inch pounds. Going to take it out again this weekend and I'm betting it will be back to its old bug holing self.
