A friend of mine once showed me a rifle in 500 A-square. Built on a 460 Weatherby action, it had weight added to the buttstock to bring the weight up to 16 lbs. He was shooting 750 gr BMG bullets, don't remember what powder he used or how fast they were. My friend was sporting a bandage on the nice scope cut he had between his eyes. You guessed it-the rifle was for sale. What can anybody tell me about this chambering?

This cartridge has been around along time, started as the .510 Wells, maybe something different earlier, but I think the Wells was first. I will be building three for customers. They do not have to weigh 16 pounds, and main purpose is to shoot 500 to 600 grain bullets as a DGR Stopper. Build the rifle correctly and the recoil is managable, although not for the light hearted. Around 11 to 12 pounds is correct. They do shove you back, however, and it takes a bit of warming up to be able to handle the recoil.

You go a couple of rounds with Tyson and then the rifle won't be too bad.

What kind of velocity with a given bullet can the 500 A-Square produce? I don't want to repeat what I was told, I'll be called a liar. Another friend who shot it made this comparison: "You know what a 3 1/2" 12 gauge with full house turkey loads feels like?---Well, that ain't nuthin-this thing KICKS!" ![[Linked Image]](/ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif)

I have Correct A-Square built one, and I would sell it if you want it..

<br>wood stocks that DO reduce the felt recoil.
<br>I Chronographed it once, 600grn at 2400+..
<br>..and I have about 100rds of (A-Square Factory) loaded A-Square ammo, and another 100rds of fired brass, all with correct headstamps
