What is the best powder for loading hunting 350-400gn bullets? Looking for temp stable and able to achieve 2400 safely with a 400 gn bullet. I have alot of h4350 and would like to use it for practice loads. I know its not the best powder but has anyone used it with this cartridge? Seems you can get into the 2350 range before you run out of case capacity. Thanks for any help.

Have a .416 Howell with case capicity very close to the Rem. Varget and Reloader 15 work well with lead-core bullets. With copper bullets I prefer Benchmark or 8208 XBR to avoid excessive compression of the powder. No problems reaching 2400 fps with 400gn or nearly 2600 fsp with 350gn bullets.

I shoot the .416 Rem Mag, but have never loaded anything with H or IMR 4350. Best powder I've found is RL15 for both 350 and 400 grain bullets. I've used IMR 4064 some, too, when I was looking for an accurate load for a certain bullet, but I came back to the RL15. I've never had any problems with RL15 in extreme temperatures, but I can't say that I ever chrono'd my loads in really cold temperatures. I did set some loads out in the summer sun in prep for hunting in Africa, getting them up above 100F, and found no pressure problems. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck, you'll love shooting this round.

416 RM use to use 4064 but nowadays...with 350s Varget beats RE15 in my 26"HB. For 300Xs I use 2015. Best wishes.
