Hello, I have an old Springfield 84c and I just can't get a good sight picture with the iron sights. I don't have any way of just selling it, so I figured I would just try and put a scope on it. It has 2 holes on the side of the receiver and some guy told me that he had the same 2 holes and used a weaver #2 side mount to put on a scope. What are these holes for and how can I put a scope on it? http://s1119.photobucket.com/albums/k633/bp123455/?action=view&current=photo4.jpg

You're going to be stuck using a 3/4 inch or 7/8 inch tube I think. I've posted a picture of the Weaver mount you need to be looking for.

You find them on auction sites and gun shows.

What is the name of the mount? Just a T3 weaver mount?

Yep. T-3 side mount. You should be able to find one with a scope in it. A Weaver B4 isn't bad if the lens are still clear. I have a a couple of them and they work fine for what they are. Don't expect much at dawn or dusk.

If I found one of the mounts, how much do you think it would run me? I will be kinda upset if I have to spend a lot of cash on a ninety dollar rifle. Some guys told me a weaver #2 side mount would work, do you know anything about that?

The current version of the side mount uses a separate base and ring assembly. Gets pricey for your needs at around $50 for the two pieces but it would allow 1" scopes. The old sheet metal set-up like pictured above should work and you can throw on a current cheap Tasco/beeman/BSA 3/4" scope. They also made them in a 1" but those are quite hard to find. Below is a pic of the hole spacing, you only need to use two holes. I have spare mounts if you need one. I could do $17 shipped. The scope mounted is a BSA 2-7X 3/4" and I could sell the mount and scope shipped for $40.

Okay I am totally interested in one of those mounts. 99% chance I will buy one of the extras off of you. I will try to send you a PM tomorrow, or somehow get back to you. Thanks for helping me out!
