I finally got the 180 gr TSX to shoot well in my .300 WSM. The 180 Accubonds also shoot good. Generally speaking, do you notice much difference (accuracy or velocity) with TTSX vs TSX with the same load? The Accubonds have a little higher BC, so I might stick with them,

What do y'all think? Stick with 180 TSX, 180 Accubonds, or go to TTSX, or maybe drop to 165 or 168 TSX/TTSX or 165 Accubond?

I'm confident any of them will kill an elk, so there's probably no wrong answer.

150 or 168gr TTSX would be my choice.

I've seen the TSX/TTSX respond identically to the same load, but I've also seen them differ in both accuracy and velocity. You just have to try the load and see for yourself.

Go with the Accubonds. The TSX will just pencil through and the tip will fall out of the TTSX and then just pencil through.

Any of those bullets will kill cleanly with good shot placement, pick your poison.

Other than the cool little blue tip, what's the advantage, if any, of the TTSX over the TSX?

My TTSX loads in several rifles (Tikka 25-06, Rem 700 mtn 270 Win, Rem 700 mtn 280 Rem, 7mmWSM Abolt) exhibit slightly higher velocities (about 50 or so fps), shoot slightly better, and definitely fly flatter, at least out to 300 yards, than the same exact TSX loads. The exception was my Montana 8400 in 30-06, it definitely preferred the TSX. I haven't made the comparison in my new 84L.

Have yet to see a thread or hear a report about a NAB that failed to open. Just sayin.......

They will both kill if you do your part. Higher BC's come in to play at longer distances. How far do you practice?

+1 on the 168 grain TSX. I searched high and low for a load combination I really liked, probably burning most of my barrel life doing it (not complaining, it sure was fun!). Work up a load over RL17 with the bullet sitting between .050 and .070 off the lands and you will have a great round for your hunts.

I to have had the TTSX jsut pencil thru. As well as the early Hornady SST's. Don't kow about hte new one's b/c the older one's ruined it for me. That's why all I shoot now are the NAB and NBT, lots of animals later all have worked as expected.

How far off the lands with the 180 accubonds to start. Getting 3/4 inch with the 168 ttsx at. 050 but can't get the accubonds to perform. Been loading them at. 025.

Hm, I have never had a problem with a TSX failing. They do need at least 2000 fps to perform properly, so if you are using heavier weights at longer ranges, that could be the problem. The biggest advantage of all copper or bonded core bullets is you can use lighter weights and still have the retained weight to drive through and exit. Also, the exit wound with the TSX will be a LOT smaller than most are accustomed to. Last season I had a 175ish meter broadside on a MI white tail doe with my .300 WSM and a 168 TSX. The entrance was just a little pinprick and the exit was maybe a 1" x 1" square. Both lungs looked like they were turned inside out though so the TSX performed perfectly.

TTSX has a larger hollow point behind the blue tip



and will not be subject to detritus in the hollow point either from manufacturing process or happenstance



For me any caliber smaller than 30 gets a blue tip and any caliber 30 and above will get a TSX or TTSX depending upon what's available

The Accubonds are great bullets and I shoot some (280AI 160 gr & 30-06 200 gr) but they do create more red jelly on the animal. They will also leave a small exit if the entry/exit is sufficient distance for the Accubond to lose all the front part and the petals to fold back on the shank.

Shoot whichever gives you the best accuracy and don't be surpised if it is the Barnes bullet.

So far the most accurate in my rifle has been the 165gr Hornady Interlock; which would probably work okay. I just don't trust it to kill an elk cleanly if it hits bone. The 180 Accubond and 180 TSX are about the same, accuracy-wise (so far). Since I have more of the Accubonds, that'll probably be the one I go with this time around.

I know it's kinda apples to oranges, but with my expeirance with 150 interlocks in my 30-06 i sure would'nt be afraid to shoot any elk with 165s out of a 300wsm. Just my .02 worth.

All good bullets but I would choose the Accubond as long as it shoots well in your rifle.
