I needed new tires on my truck, while I was getting them installed at the local tire store I noticed a 5 gallon bucket of old scrap wheel weights near one of the ballancing machines...I asked the manager if I could purchase the bucket full, informing him that theres a whole lot of uses like fishing weight, and dive belt weights, ETC. (notice I did not mention bullets as I don,t know what the guys feeling about guns are) that that scrap lead can be recycled into! reminding him ID just spend $700 on truck tires ,I offered him 10cents a LB which is the going rate around here...
he said " sorry can,t sell them, its against company pollicy but I usually just pitch them in the dumpster, so back up that pickup truck and we will throw a bunch in the bed for FREE!!!"
7 ---yeah 7 mostly near full 5 gallon cans of scrap wheel weights (300 lbs or slightly more!! FREE!!!)
LIKE I SAID it ALWAYS PAYS TO ASK!!

crimminy!

so, did you have to get a new hitch on the truck after you got home?

You know, due to the backend dragging all the way home!

Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.

When your ship comes in. ... make sure you are willing to unload it.

PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

300lbs plus , in the bed of a 1 ton truck with aftermarket air shocks and load helper springs, hardly makes a noticable differance, in the ride but I am GLAD to get about a years worth of bullet casting lead for FREE!

Actually 5 gallon buckets full of wheelweights run at about 100 pounds.

Good score! Seems like all my sources of ww's have dried up <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> I do have a few buckets left though.

I've been buying ww from most of the local tire shops for several years now for 10 cents/lb. A 5-gal pail setteled and rounded weighs 175 but they are usually loaded to about 150 pounds each. Never had any trouble buying them--the shops are always glad to get rid of them. I reduce them to 1-lb ingots--a 5-gal pail will hold over 250 pounds of ingots but I cannot haul them that way since the bail will just rip right off the pail when I try to lift them. So I store the ingots in plastic 55-gal drums. I use closed top drums, cut a 10-inch round hole in the top, screw the 10-inch plastic round to a piece of 2x12 for a lid, and mount the drum on a heavy duty 2ft by 2ft pallet. Each drum will hold between 2500 and 3000 lb of ingots, so I've stored several tons of ingots so far. I may quit someday. Maybe. But sometime back I saw some store selling 1-lb ww ingots for .50 each. And, of course, some day some genius just might find a way to turn lead into gold. But then I do that every time I cast more bullets!!

Hell, I guess I'm a lightweight 'cause I've only got about 800 pounds of wheelweights! If it ever cools off around here I'll have to turn some of those into 358429's and various big bore LBT designs.
