"bought a die set, 140 gr. and 160 gr. partitions, 154 hornady interlocks, 162 A-max's, and some RE22"

You've got what you need. Load the 160 Partitions, work up to about 65 grains of RE22, and you're done. Should be about 3000 - 3100 fps with good accuracy.

I'd leave it at 26" to start with. Hunt with it that way, and perhaps you won't want to chop it down. You can always cut it back later, but steel is doggone hard to stretch...

I'm with Guy. I've taken 2 bull elk (and also a British Columbia moose and a NWT caribou) with the 160 Nosler Partition and the 7mm Rem Mag. My favorite powders are IMR4831 and Re-22. I also would start with the 26" barrel. If it won't shoot or proves unwieldy, you can always cut and crown it later.

Loads I have liked over the years have been the 140 Partition, 140 Bitterroot,140 Nosler AB,and 140 BT over 68 RL22.Years past I used IMR4831 and the 140's with good success, but the rifle was a long throat job and don't recall the specific amount.

68-69 H4831 gives around 3150 with the 150 BT and NPT.

I have also used H4831 for around 3090 with the 160 NPT and Bitterroot;again a long throated rifle.

I really like 70 RL25 and the 150 BT/NPT for 3125 or so.Accurate load.

I went to the fun store the other day and bought a die set, 140 gr. and 160 gr. partitions, 154 hornady interlocks, 162 A-max's, and some RE22. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys....

I love the 154SST and a load of around 63grs RE22.

Thanks, Guy.

The two pictured elk were my first (Chama, NM) and my biggest (AZ, 392 5/8 gross and 385 net B&C). The moose is a good solid 49" Canada moose, and the caribou also is in the book at 371 5/8 net.

When I made my original post, I forgot about another caribou from the NWT I took with the 160 NPT. It scored around 350, IIRC:

So, as you can see, I'm quite fond of the 160 NPT out of the 7mm Mag. It has been a lucky combo for me.

BSA, I'm not much of a believer in the idea of "best", but I doubt it'd be hard to beat a good 160 grainer.

I helped a friend pull a 160 HotCore out of the offside of a bull he shot w/ his 7mm RM... bullet looked like it came from a Speer catalog. Picture perfect.

Speer, Sierra, Nosler... they all make em.

That's what I was thinking Mac.... I didn't think you were a 7mm shooter but you did help me with finding a good load for my 300wsm. Thanks again for that. By the way, your new 30-06 is a shooter and that bull was a beauty!!!! I'll be out and about trying to find mine tomorrow.....

I sure shot a pile of animals with 7mm 140 gr Solid Base & 140 NPT's in the 7x57 and 7mm Rem Mag before they came out with the Ballistic Tip, nevermind the Accubonds? Magnum Man

My 7mm RM and I like 160 gr Accubonds. Elk, and a pile of other critters in Northern Canada and South Africa didn't.
