I drew a MT Bighorn Ram tag this year. Put on lots of miles. I'll write up more later as it took all day today to get it out but with all the talk of the Kahtoola Crampons. If you don't own a pair you need to. I would have had twice the work without mine. Heading out for Elk now that I got my sheep as we finally have some weather. (Dumping as I write this)
Yes the Crampons are worth the extra money IMO. I have the Aluminum ones and they are not so sharp which is nice for general hiking on slick hillsides.
The thing about Pete's Ram is he made it a REAL hunt... his tag would have allowed him to take a Sheep in a much easier manner off a road but he did it the "right" way.
Would also add, there are a lot of different sheep hunts in Montana given Montana's huge variety of terrain... Pete's is at the top of difficulty.
I really like the way he got his done!

Pete
Very nice, indeed. Congrats from Idaho!
BTW, I haven't tried the Kahthoola crampons, but I do have and like their Microspikes very much.

Re: Kahtoola crampons, they are are on my short list of things to get. My pard in ID has worn a pair out, literally, and won't be without. They are very light insurance and helpful on areas without snow, like packing an elk sidehill on wet grass.
After a dall sheep hunt, 2 goat hunts in ID, 2 sheeps hunts in ID, and misc deer/elk hunts he sent his aluminum version back to Kahtoola to get a strap replaced. They called him and asked if they could keep them as they had never seen that much wear on a pair! Sent him a brand spanking new pair to replace them. They worked a whole heck of alot better on the goat hunt I went on him with than the Black Diamonds that I borrowed. Toe points were no bueno for me...
