Where is the best place to list and sell antiques? My mother recently passed leaving behind a large list of personal auction items. I thought instead of leaving all these antiques to an estate auctioneer, I would attempt to move them myself online. I thought about ebay, but my past experience with them has me a little hesitant due to increasing fees and such.

On line would be the last place I would go with that stuff. Who's going to pack and ship it. You?

Pay the fee and estate it.

Sorry about your mom.

Craigslist and cash only can work well if you're in the right area. However, you need to know the value of what you have. If you don't you can get shafted.

Let the relatives have what they want then hire an auctioneer if there is anything of real value. If not hire someone to run an estate sale. They usually take 20-30% of the gross.

First off, my condolences over your Mothers' passing. It is always hard, even though we all know its inevitable.

As to the antiques, Sir, if you have to ask, then you should leave it alone. Pay an auctioneer. He/she will be motivated to maximize the profit as their net income is tied to it. Going into it fairly blind and not knowing an items worth will be a mistake.

I go to Estate Sales. The people you hire will research a little or just have a pretty good handle on prices. Around here they will bring 4-5 people. They watch for thieves, Help load up the big or heavy stuff and usually on the final day they back off on prices, if that's okay with you. I think they make you enough to justify their fee. My 2 cents. Good Luck.
