I purchased a .338 federal barrel for my T/C pro hunter a couple years ago and I am having trouble finding a factory round to shoot out of it. I have tried 200 grain fusions, 185 Barnes triple shock, and 2 others I can't remember. Does anyone have other suggestions as to what may work? Nothing I have tried has seems to group at all!

The platform in general is the problem IME. T/C Encores have shaken out to be the world's most successful marketing endeavor on such a bottom drawer product.

Is it locking up tight when you close the action? If you google Mike Bellm, he has some hints on his website.

Of thr 30 or so Encore barrels I have had only one that had accuracy issues (280 rem) and they worked out easily(rough spot in bore)and it became a sub moa barrel. I have had a bit better over all results with contenders in the accuracy dept however. I am currently down to 3 Encore rifle tubes and one pistol barrel and all are good shooters. I have muledeers(JB) 405 win barrel and it has been my go to gun for several years and will likely be the last to go. My old .338 Federal barrel resides at a friends house and I still get to shoot it sometimes. I load for it. I will do 3/4 to 7/8 in groups when the shooter is willing to do the trigger pullin right. It did shoot the fusion ammo well from the get go though. I have never had to do the oversize pin thing to any of them and outside of hanger bars to the fore-ends have not made any changes to them. Maybe I am lucky but they have been pretty trouble free guns for me. I got my first Contender in 1971 and My first Encore in 1998. I have used them to kill over 200 head of big game and several thousand varmits and I expect I will continue to do that as long as I am able.

They are pricey but I have never owned one that didn't shoot. I have never done a thing to them other then clean thema and shoot them. I must be lucky

Doc I would agree,,,sure there can be a lemon every now and then,,,every production line can can have them. But I have yet to find a factory barrel either TC or Bergara, where I could find a load that wouldn't shoot near or under 1 moa. I tend to splurge however, and 90% of mine are custom, and with those under 1/2 moa is more the rule, rather than exception.

I agree with the one that said reloading may be best. But one thing I would do, if you ahven't. Make sure the locking bolt is clean of oil You don't want any lube of any kind on it or the recess it seats in. It may or may not help,,,worth a try.

My Encore barrels in 405 win, 375 H&H mag and 204 Ruger are scary accurate. And it appears my experience is not the exception.
