Just picked a A7 in 25-06. Without mounts, etc it weighs 6lbs 12oz.

Normal? I was hoping it was lighter...

That does sound a little heavy.

FWIW, my A7(300WSM) weighs 7lbs on the nose with Talley LW's and a 6x42 Leupold. Not sure what the listed weight is but it must be around 6 1/4lbs?

Of course your barrel is gonna weigh more and the action is a little longer.

That sounds heavy for sure. Unscoped, I seem to recall my '06 as 6lbs 1 oz, but that's in an EDGE and I'm not sure what the difference is....

I'll have to check again.

Is it the newer A7 with the soft touch stock? ther maY be some differences in the stock design, plus the coating may add some weight. My A7 SS in .270 weighs right at 6 1/2 pounds, also, the .25 caliber bore will leave a bit more barrel weight. Nice rifle, mine is the older version.....hope this helps, goodshot

Now i know why its heavy.
Stock weighs almost 35 oz. If it shoots like i hope a Sako Classic with Edge will be on order....
Seriously thinking on installing the pad myself if there is a .75-1" pad that weighs 2-3 oz instead of my normal 1" Pachmayr at 6-7oz.

Should be able to trim 12oz with $500.....

GREENTIMBER could you weigh your stock? Looking at your weigjt i would guess it will be ~24-25 oz

The stock on my original version A7 weighs 24ozs..

POS cracked though so I ordered an Edge(Classic) from Rick a couple weeks ago.

Trying to remember but somebody weighed an Edge and it was around 24-25oz, maybe it was Greentimber?

It cracked right at the front sling stud. Not designed for use with a bipod I guess.

Mine is for a WSM action so you probably wouldn't want it.

Ryan at McMillan weighed my previous .300 WSM A7 at 5 lbs 13 ozs and that was a first gen A7.

6lbs 12 ozs is fairly piggish imho.

I agree.....if it shoots I'll "Edge" it and sell an Edge for a STD LA 700 to fund it...

Both my 1st-generation A7s below were under 6-pounds on a digital scale out the box. The 243 on top is used as a coyote rifle and has heavy QR rings to change scopes along with a QR mounting base for my LightPro system. All this added junk brings this 243 to just over 7 pounds. But if it were set-up like my 30-06 in the bottom pic using LW rings and a modest scope, they'll weigh no more than around 6 3/4 pounds. The stocks on both rifles are 1st-generation and weigh in the low 20 ounce range being as light or lighter than an Edge. Both rifles were purchased cheaply and both are crazy accurate. I've shot groups from the bench at 200 yards with as many as 10-shots from both rifles measured under MOA. Being the stocks are so light that an Edge would not save any weight, and being both rifles are so insanely accurate that an Edge would not improve accuracy to any noteable degree, I've kept the factory handles.

I'm thrown off a bit about your ST stock being so heavy. I just received a new Black Bear which wears the newest version of the ST and it is a featherweight, same as the Finnlight. Sounds like your bare rifle out the box weighs as much as my entire 1st-generation A7 30-06 with scope and all. That would be a pretty big jump in weight for the A7 ST stock.

As for bi-pods, my opinion is that a 3/4 to 1 pound bipod mounted on the unreinforced swivel mount of a 23-24 ounce ultra light stock is bad medicine. As is, the 1st-generation stock is outstanding for its intended purpose, but if one was looking to add a pound to the front swivel stud, I'd look at using a stock having a reinforced forend.

Gary- stock weighs 34.7 oz on a digital postal scale. Don't know what to say except "it is what it is".

How do I determine the LW stock???

BTW- this stock is all black which I thought was the first version. I removed the pad to see if some added weight but all I saw was some foamish padding folded up between the reinforcing ribs. Forearm is also reinforced with cross bracing.

Dave,

I'm sure you have a first generation stock.

Did Sam weigh his stock without the center piece that holds the magazine? I think if you take that out the stock will weigh in at 24 oz or so just like Sams.

I think whatever extra weight you are getting is in the barrel area.

Hey Bob- I think/thought it was/is a 1st gen also but I'm stumped why this complete (less scope) 25-06 weighs 1/2 lb more than other similar units. The smaller bore is only an once or two.
Garyva's rifles are substantially lighter.

Just seems to be my luck....
