Thoughts of a new build are starting and I've not done a detachable mag.... It looks like there are several variations for bottom metal using 5 or 10 round, single stack, AICS mags. It appears Ruger has created a 3 round flush fit mag for their Scout rifle: http://shopruger.com/Scout-308-Mag-M77-3P/productinfo/90374/Notes on the site state: "Not recommended for use with other M24/M40/AICS-style systems." If the Scout rifle is set up to use AICS mags, should another AICS specific bottom metal be able to use the 3 round mag? Say a 700 build with any of the bm's designed for AICS mags? JCM

I know people are trying this. From what I understand the polymer feed lips are thicker than the metal mag counterparts. The Ruger was designed around this, but other actions such as a Remmy will not allow the magazine to sit high enough. People are grinding the lips to make them fit, but I'm honestly not sure how successful they are with getting everything to function properly.

Thanks for the info. It "sounds" like it would be an easy fix if only the feed lips needed ground...but it may be uglier once things started....
I wonder how tough it would be to cut off a 5 round mag and tack the bottom back on flush with the bottom metal?

IMO the best detach mag system I have found is the hs precision unit, that is not available at this time yet. keep in mind I have never had one in my hands BUT, it offers options, they are going to offer a 4 round nearly flush mag, while not truly flush it will be slightly protruding out the botton with rounded edges, lets call it functionally flush. a 5 round mag and a 10 round. to me that is all the bases covered for whatever your need may be. wanna be flush, put in the 4 rounder, wanna sling rounds at a tactical match use the 10 round mag. I can't think of any other setup thats going to have those options. now if HS can just make the stupid things, one other thing is the inletting over a stock BDL is supposed to be alot more minimal than say a badger unit.

i'd much rather run AI pattern mags. i'm glad Ruger went with that style. i've used the Badger M5 bottom metal and AICS stocks, and i hear good things about the Surgeon bottom metal.
if the Ruger mags are similar to the AI .223 mags, it would be no big deal to fit them to the rifle.
i put flush cup sling swivels on the side of the stock to keep from having the mags bite me.
Guns don't kill people, drivers with cell phones kill people.
