Yeah, I know blastphomy, but anyways,
My vision ain't what it used to be and I am having serious problems focusing on front sight, rear sight and target.
Therefore I'm looking for a low power scope for my Win 94 AE.
I don't have unlimited funds so price is a major consideration.
Anyone have a suggestion for a low power scope say 1.5 - 4.5 power in the lower price range that's not a useless p.o.s.?
$250 would be at the upper end of my budget.
Thanks for any and all replies.
Eric

You should be able to find a VX-1 1-4x20for your price and that will make a fine scope for a lever gun and sit right donw low on the receiver.

Does Weaver still make the K2.5? I had one on a '94 trapper .44 a decade or so back. Great setup.

That looks really high. Can you see through the scope with your cheek on the stock?

It's more like a " jaw weld". Not perfect but you can get used to it. Lowest see through setup I could find. Going after wounded piggies in the thickets, I have to have the iron sight visible.

For $250 you could get a Leupold 1-4x20, 2.5X, or a good used Weaver K2.5, K3 or V4.5. Any would be light and compact enough not to ruin the handling of your Winchester. You can mount them nice and low as well.

had a weaver k2.5 on one of my 94's, but just picked up a redfield 2.5 for it right here in the classified forum.... the redfield had better glass, but either would work well....

WTF?

Why the QD rings, if you're going with that abortion of a mount?

A low-Weaver rail and QDs will give you better balance, still let you pop the glass right off, and leave the irons easily visible, while preventing a JO-style contortion to use the glass.

Just MHO, and do as you see fit, but damn....

I knew my contraption would stir deep emotions around here. In my defense: scoping a 94 ... well, your options are rather limited. Mostly due the open top action design. The rear mount has to be a bridge design, few manufacturers venture there. On the contrary, you'll find tons of stuffs for a Marlin 336.
My first thought was exactly what you suggested. Using low Weaver rail with some sort of a QD ring. No one seem to have it, at least I was unable to locate one. Next I have tried Weaver 2 piece Top Mount bases with their QD rings. The damn thing was so much misaligned to the side, I had to stuff aluminium foil between the ring and base just to get on paper. Of course it did not hold POI. Next, Nikon's windage adjustable bases, didn't fare much better either. So if you or anyone can suggest a low, fully, slotted weaver/picatinny rail, I'll buy it tomorrow and rip that "abortion of a mount" right off.
P.s. No scout type rail.

Really.. I'm gonna crap if I have to use an aluminum mount on the 94AE I just bought. I wanted to put a Leupold 1.4-4 I have on it and was thinking that I'd be able to find a solid steel mount for it.

I had to look. From Midway USA. Leupold 2-Piece Standard Scope Base Winchester 94 Angle-Eject Gloss.

Product #: 302646, Leupold #: 50035

Add a set of Leupold low or medium rings?? What is the matter with these??
