Steel Bed is in my opinion the absolute best there is. If I had to go cheap then JB is right there. Have been using one shot for a few years and its works well and clean up is easy.

"Acra glass gel won't get hard."

How hard does it need to be, considering even steel has elasticity. So long as it uniformly transfers force to the stock and returns to its original shape and size, so whatever it does is precisely repeatable.

(Not discounting Al's comment on durability.)

Was wondering if someone would mention JB, mostly because I have some new tubes bought this week for fixing a forend tip.

Have been testing putting a pressure point on some rifles that are free floated with good results. Three business cards under the barrel at the forend have tightened up groups significantly on three out of five rifles, and I was going to put a permanent pad there on those rifles.

I'm assuming that JB Weld would work as good as anything else for that small area?

Yes....

Been using Marine Tex for some time now after doing a few in Acraglass. Just bought some Devcon to try, but don't have one to bed yet.

For a release agent, I've been using Kiwi, but One Shot seems like it would be a lot easier. Just hafta remember to order some next time I call Midway.
