Mark, the 180's shot great, sub moa, the 150's shot very good, moa, and the 168's were horrible, 3".

In the WSM it's a winner, winner, winner.

Also make a nice backpack rifle shooting those 150's at 3,100.
Heck, I would think that would make a 270 green with envy.

Why does Hogdon only recommend this powder for specific cartridges?

I have been asked how I got my data.

They list the 30-06 150 Nosler Ballistic Tip at 53,000 psi using 65.0 grains of S-F powder for about 3,100. The 30-06 is rated at 60,000 sammi and 58,000 cip.
The Ballistic Tip and the Accubond are the same size bullet.

I load two grains more but I have a lot longer COAL to make up for it

Is that the OAL your using? That's sitting out pretty far. Maybe, maybe not.

Yes, it is. I could go lower and cut some powder if I was chasing accuracy.

A 30-06 firing a 150 TTSX at 3100 might convince me to move my 300WSM back a row in the safe.

Definitely worth a lb of powder to find out.

I'm glad to see they added the '06 and 280 Rem to the load data. I hope you're not running too hot to get a few extra fps, sounds like some good performance from the old '06.

M1, do you have the Superformance data for the 280 Rem? I'd love to see it.

Here is the Hodgdon data for the 30-06 using S-F.

155 GR. SIE HPBT Hodgdon Suprform .308" 3.225" 59.0 2843 43,400 PSI 65.2C 3125 58,800 PSI


I could go to their COAL length and cut my powder by two grains and achieve the same results. My longer COAL allows me to load more and still be within pressure limits of the 06.

In Hodgdons 150 grain load data there is 5 grains and 9,900 psi difference between the starting load and max load. Thier max load is only at 53,000 psi.

Roughly, but I think a good estimate, if I take that 9,900 psi difference and divide by 5 grains I come up with 1,980 psi per grain of powder.

Those two extra grains of powder add me 3,960 psi to 53,000 psi for 56,960 psi in a cartridge designed for 60,000 psi.
Again, add to the fact that I have a longer COAL my pressures
would safely be lower than that.
