That sucks Tex, not the leg part, but you can still come to the "fire" once in awhile.

1996 or 1997 at Shooters. Came here when Shooters went stupid. Guys who used to post there I have wondered about include:

Bobski (a different Bobski than the one we have here)

I can't say that I was ever a member at shooters. It seems like that was the place most everybody here migrated from.

Man, sometimes it seems like yesterday and sometimes it seems like...too long...:)
I'm member #80 FWTW, and can't recall how I got over to this present campfire..shooters?all outdoors?
Might have been the Savage Collectors forum or maybe Christ at the Campfire?..
they're similar ya know..:)...

Lot's of great information and help if one can take the die-hard "one way only folks" with a grain of salt( no offense Jed1899)..:)

Funny how many of the threads and cuss-discuss-ions are so similar to ones five years back..or longer..:)..

I have always enjoyed the Alaskan threads and the wild hair left handed truans that hunt and populate that country..

Military-construction trash , flim flam artists and escapees...and natives alike, they are good people..

JJHack and I go way back and his bear hunting experiences predate his African adventures and hunts...and I always enjoyed Ken Howell and the rest of the gunrag pimps..:)

WHO was that old fellow who used to post on the African forum and where'd he go?
He was great and funny too.

Not too PC but straight for the heart always..with good experiences( stories) anyhow..:)

Old Tink I think was his handle..hope he didn't die on us..

and then there's Bobski..Shreck, and a few other old miscreants who show up periodically..jim

Well I see Texas Hunter finally showed up, he is the one responsible for this Campfire coming to life.
Don't know how many remember but Sieed? was on Shooters for awhile and started Accurate Reloading from there. Shooters had a habit of going down from time to time so after the move I started taking names and e-mail addresses so we could get back together in case worse came to bad. Most of the names mentioned so far are in the organizer. Guess 10 Point owns half of Chicago by now. Sold JJ one of my 44 Mags, (big mistake), but he loves it and perhaps will save his bacon in Africa someday. Allen in Alaska seldom posts anymore, (I still owe him one). How many remember 4 Finger Mick, 7400Hunter, 8 Ball, Badger, BCAT, Big Sky's, Buster, Capt-E, Casper, Centruion, Chambo, Conrad, Cuzzinmitch, Sparkman. Deerslayer, there are many more. -- no

I got brave and built my first computer just as Windows 98 hit the shelves. The first thing I did aftere getting the modem installed and an ISP was start internet searches for firearms related information.

The search engine finally yielded "Shooters Talk". I remember reading many discussions involving "Fish 280", "Palmer Ridge", "Dempsey", and others.

From Shooters, I discovered 24 hour, Alloutdoors, Greybeard, The Baitshop, and eventually AR.

None of the other sites seem to hold my interest. Less knowledge is available when a question is asked. And the other posters get more adversarial when an oppinion is expressed.

This site has some great people, willing to share a wealth of knowledge.

Thanks a lot everybody. I have enjoyed greatly my time here.

Man Sonny, some real bell ringers there. Cuzzinmitch was something ELSE!

Nice to hear from ya again dude! Sorry about your break up with Robin. Very nice gal, I'm sure it hurts a bit.

Well, ya could always come up for the next Spring Fling! I think you'd fit right in.

It's been a good run, lots of fun and I've learned a lot of info from y'all. I stumbled onto Shooter's a year or two before it imploded, and NO especially welcomed me aboard. It is good to hear from Texas Hunter again, and remember the clown suit, long shots at crows, etc. from Shooters Good stuff. Glad to hear that your leg is better. I wonder if Little Miss Dear is still around? Some guy probably found her and married her by now. Toons and Toon s Hubby, Suluuq aka Rusty Gunn, Jim in Idaho's shooting ability.

In my memory, Waders was the pied piper who led the parade over here. I count Waders a friend. I got to meet Bullwinkl, Waders, the intriguing Okie John, Sheister and several others at a steakhouse one time in Olympia, WA. Have traded info with JJ and always learned more than I gave. Big Stick has been a fund of info on hunting and fishing both. Eremicus I've wanted to meet someday, and have enjoyed his expertise on the backpack forum, along with crusty Kutenay and a wealth of info from JimF and others. Wonder what happened to Backpack Hunter since he pulled the plug on his informative web site? Lots of good info from Stika Deer and AKGrayling and I'll leave out many. Blaine has emerged as a guy I'd like to know as has Ready on the Right, BW, Ken Howell, Mule Deer and a number of others I've come to respect. The recent influx with Barak, Mrs. B, Elf, Houndgirl etc. has been informative and livened things. Big Sky, Muley Stalker, many whose posts and tone of life I enjoy. Some campfire names I've just enjoyed, like Entropy and High Tech Redneck.

I came from Shooters in Jan. of 01 and this campfire is the best. Trouble is, it's addictive. I don't post tons but read a lot, even when I'm on the road. I'd lose out on most number of states but would probably be on a short list for most number of countries. I walked and walked in Sophia, Bulgaria one night to find an internet cafe to catch up on the Campfire. In Istanbul I could read but when I tried to post something the English keyboard had a Turkish spin that wouldn't come out right. Jet lagged reading at 3:00 AM in Singapore and Hong Kong. Probably did a stupid risk in Kabul to find an internet cafe, and in Pakistan the guy running the cafe was a poet (as are many Pakistani men) who showed me his stuff and he was pretty good. The dumbest was sitting at a computer in Athens with a view of the Parthenon out the window but I managed enough good sense to clip my Campfire reading short and go see Athens.

Here's to another ten years even better. May you prosper and continue to exhibit exceptional good sense in running this place, Rick.

DAMN Tex! Don't I know pretty much how you feel! Sorry to hear that man! Mex and beer on me if you ever find your way up here. Hope so!

BTW, as chitty as it feels, life DO get better! Sitting here with a bigass smile on my face as testament!

Okanagan, how are the eyes? So glad to hear from friends of the past. This guy can tell you all about canoe traveling, fishing, packing, anything you want to know from experience. As you can see his "job" takes him all over the world. You can bank on what he says. -- no

458, did you get to do any rock climbing this year? Are you still with an oil company? Thanks for the info about Allen, he kinda droped outa sight. For those that don't know Allen was and is a "big bear" hunter. He sent me pictures of his bear along with the Alaskan tagged skull. Now you talk about living in the sticks, the only way to get to him is by boat or aircraft, I guess dog team in the winter and I claim to live in the sticks of East Texas. -- no

Scott, was sorry to hear about your problem and selling your perfect spot in the mountains. Hope the guide business is going well for you. This thread is kinda like old home week around the Campfire. -- no

Yes, I was one of those who were on the "Coffee shop" at All-outdoors once. I still remember some posts from there like they were yesterday. I remember several who we don't see here much such as jumptrap and backpack hunter.
A couple of threads quickly come to mind:
I remember JJ telling backpack his handle was well suited when he announced he was moving from Alaska back to the lower 48.
Also a certain lengthy post involving the front quarters of a praire goat.

I never spent much time at shooters but went instead to HuntAmerica. Big mistake. Swamp decided he didn't want me around any longer one night, and I had lots of company. Can't say that I miss the place much either.

This is the place I now spend my greatest amount of time, although I am not a real prolific poster. Have corresponded with a lot of great people here and have bought and sold with others with nary a complaint of any kind. Would also like to thank Rick for the nice place we have here to exchange info and such, as it is pretty obvious that this site has a lot of the "Right Stuff".

Many thanks to all for the trip down memory lane.

For those that have mentioned me, thanks for the kind words, and bear in mind that I have not ever forgotten how lonely a campfire is by yourself!

I'm open to any ideas that would rekindle some of these old friendships, if there is anything I can do that will help stoke that part of the fire. It seems to me the embers are still red hot.

All ears folks!

Rick

BTW, 1996 AllOutdoors was where I cut my teeth, registered at shooters shortly thereafter, but was more active at AllOutdoors until late 1998.
