Off the top of my head, my wife Eileen and I have taken pronghorns with the .220 Swift, .243 Winchester, .240 Weatherby, .250 Savage, .257 Roberts, .25-06 Remington, .257 Weatherby, 6.5x55, 6.5-06, .270 Winchester, 7x57, .280 Ackley Improved, 7mm Remington Magnum, 7mm STW, .30-06 and .300 WSM. They all worked, but the longest shots were made with the .257 Roberts, 6.5x55, .257 Weatherby, 7x57 and .280 Ackley Improved. All of those were 350-450 yards, and neither of us have ever tried any longer shots on unwounded antelope.
Eileen's favorite pronghorn round is probably the .257 Roberts. Mine is the rifle of the moment. Neither of us have shot one at much over 300 yards for a number of years. That's a lot of dead lopes Aside, a lot of folks "think" they hate antelope... not sure why exactly, but I think they might be among my favorite eating game animal...

My favorite is probably a 25-06. I've also killed them with: 243 Win, 6mm Remington, 240 Wby, 25-06 AI, 257 Roberts, 270 Win, 280 Rem, 7mm Rem Mag, 308 Win, 30-06, 300 Win Mag; and a 357 revolver.

.25-06 is my favourite, the rest were shot with .308 which actually worked just as well.

240 Wby Mag, 25-06, 270 Win. 25-06 is the classic cartridge for antelope....

I thought it was a law that speed goats had to be shot with a .25 caliber of some type.

Brad,
Yeah, we've shot a few pronghorns here and there. Some of the rounds on the list have accounted for, uh, several.
I dunno why so many people "think" they don't like antelope meat, but am convinced there's something that doesn't agree with certain taste-buds. I've seen a bunch of different people eating the same pronghorn steaks at a cok-out, and once in a while one person just didn't like it, even when everybody else did. One of my good friends says that even supposedly great pronghorn meat "tastes like dogfood" to him. (Of course, I've been tempted to ask how he knows what dogfood tastes like, but....)
Great photo of your boy! He looks a lot like you.

My personal favorite for pronghorns is a .257 Wby mag.

Well we're Green and we're Gold, and we play better when it's cold. All us Cheese heads have our favorite superstar. We love Brett Favre.

No real big favs, whatever I have in my pawz at the time does just fine. And count me in the group of people who love lope meat.
Rounds I've taken them with are as follows. 17 Rem, 223, 223 Ack, 22/250, Swift, 243, 240 Page Souper Pooper, 6/06, 25/06, 257 Bee, 6.5/06, .270, 7 RM , 7 Mashburn Super, 06, 300 WM, 300 Wby, 340 Wby, 375 Wby and with my M29/44 mag.
Any of them will do just fine.

My first 'lope hunt I used a 6mm. Were I to draw a tag again, or make a road trip, I'd probably split time between my .257 Weatherby and .25-06.
This is a shooting forum, there is no place here for logic.

Got my first with my 7mm RM. Have since used a .375 Win, .308 Win, .257 Roberts, 6.5-06AI and .280 Rem. I think a .30-06, too.
The .257 Roberts with 100g TTSX or 110g AccuBonds is my favorite.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

25-06 is about the best, but a 300 WBY can really reach out. 650 yards... Not quite as far, but just as dead...

I like hunting them and eating them. 22-250,243,6mm,257,25-06,264Mag,270 Wthby,7x57,7mm Rem Mag, 308, 30-06, 45-110 & 50-140. About 60 head so far and I am not done yet.243 to 25-06 class rifles seem just about perfect for me and that is what I have used mostly. A bacon wrapped loin stk on the grill is about as good as it gets for me. Magnum Man
