The Remington 740/760/7400/7600 is really a fascinating example of engineering and interchangeable parts. They all use the exact same receiver and the same trigger group. I with the necessary parts (and there aren't that many different) just about anybody could take a 760 receiver and turn it into a 742 in a pretty short order and vice versa.
I'll take my 7600 over any AR/7400/Model 100 any day of the week and twice on Sundays for running game!
The "pump" brings the weapon out of recoil and back in line for a faster follow-up, IME. Rolling tires and "running deer" shoots at the range have proved that to me time and time again.

Out of every one hundred men, ten shouldn't even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back.
I hope you didn,t order one in 30-06 as they are an anomaly in that i have never been able to find one in that chambering that would shoot anything less than 5 inch groups at a 100 yards.I dont know what it is ,whether it is bad chamber reamers or what in the 30-06 . Every other caliber has been a tack driver.
One of the most underated rifle made: fast, accurate, reliable. Accuracy around 4cm at 100m five rounds (1 chamber 4 in magazine) Federal TB 35 Whelen. Sorry for the already shown picture. 3 shots in driven hunt 3 kills. There were more...
Experience is a lantern, carried in our back, only lightening already walked path. (Confucius)
Seeing that reminds me that I need to get off my azz and get my Whelen chopped to 20". I meant to do it prior to deer season but things got in the way.
Needs to get done....

Just Kidding of course! Craig
Scared the crap outa me
Yes was just kidding around Captain . No harm meant! The ones I have shot in 06 including the carbine version were tackdrivers. Please post pics when ya get it. Craig
Possible problems - cleaning from muzzle could damage the crown and hurt accuracy - a muzzle guard could solve that. Do the fore ends rattle? Probably not, as it is a popular deer rifle. Owners could tell us.
You're right on, a muzzle guard solves it. If the fore end rattles, you need to replace the O-ring. What most people call the "fore end rattle" is probably the plastic piece over the bolt. It barely makes a sound and if that is what scares the deer away, you're doing it wrong.
It is my favorite rifle made. There are two that I've not owned, a .243 and a .35 Whelen. I don't have a big desire to have the .243 though it's one of my favorite cals, it just doesn't do anything for me in the 7600.
If there ever was a running game gun in lieu of the AR types, a Remington pump is it.
The only downside is if you shoot your 7600 as much as alot of people shoot their ARs, the wear on the receiver will cause problems after a few hundred rounds.

Actually they're not the same receiver , and they're not the same trigger group either and do not interchange ! You can use a 740/742 receiver for a 760 but every other part would need to be from a 760 , except the Buttstock .
Don't forget to have your Liberals spayed or neutered !
They are the same receiver and the trigger group is the same except for the bolt stop on the 760. Likewise, the bolt, and the firing pin are the same. I even think the action bars are the same. The barrel is different and of course, the regulating stuff attached to the action bars is different on the 742.
You must be thinking 742 . I've never seen a worn out 760 , and I handle a bunch of them !
We saw a few of them come through the gunsmith shop, but I don't doubt ya, it takes determination to put the rounds through a pump compared to a semi-auto.
Doesn't change the fact that the remmy pump action centerfire rifles are awesome.
