Looking for feedback from .264" shooters., especially .260 Remington shooters.

I'm thinking about running this bullet as an all-arounder in my .260 and quitting switching bullets every year. It cuts into hunting time. If I can get this bullet to accurately shoot above 2700 or so (I have a slow tube I think), I may switch to it.

I'd be interested in feedback and performance on everything up to and including elk with this bullet. Additionally, I'd also be curious on terminal results on game on the lower impact velocities of this bullet (sub 1900 fps).

I'll assume great penetration and expansion, even on thin-skinned game...

I know this doesn't help but how about the 125 Noz or 120 NBT for all that moves?

My lil 260 dotes on the 120 NBT.

Just a thunk.

Aside from that, the 140 Noz would be great for all that moves from bunnies to elks.

I have used it in the 260 for a goat and some blacktails, it worked really well for both you will be pleased. Not surprisingly it combines deep penetration with good expansion.

Just remembered some black bears have also been taken with excellent results.

a friend borrowed one of my Rugers for an elk hunt and did well with it.. he wanted to load up some partitions and showed up with a box of the 140s, so that is what I loaded for him...

he's an older guy who has had some retina issues, so his doc recommended he start going smaller in caliber.. he was using a 300 Mag.. but said the elk he got dropped just as fast using the 260, with the 140 partition...

myself, like Dober, I use the 120 ballistic tips alot... and then the other rifle ( I have two that are identical, second was on close out cheap) I run 100 grain bullets thru that one, at 3350 fps MV...look at it as a short action 25/06...

I've used several bullets in various 6.5mm's, but this past year finally settled on the 140 Partition in my 6.5x55, using Ramshot Magnum for just under 2700 fps from a 21" barrel, using Ramshot's maximum load. Accuracy is VERY good, and very similar to the accuracy from my 6.5-06, 1/2" or a little more for three shots at 100 yards.

Dunno why that wouldn't work very well on elk or any other medium-large, since I've seen a 150 Partition from the .280 at 2850 or so do the job on a number of elk, plus one bull moose and a variety of 400-600 pound plains game animals in Africa. Due to the high BC the 140 also retains quite a bit of velocity out at 300-400 yards, for all practical purposes matching the 150 .270's speed, so expansion is assured.

That said, I've used a bunch of other bullets in 6.5's, including the 120 TSX and Sierra ProHunter, and some the other guys have mentioned, such as the 120 Ballistic Tip and 125 Partition. They would work fine too, and you could no doubt work up a load with, say, the 120 ProHunter or BT, and either the 120 TSX or 125 Partition that would have both bullets landing in the same place. Then you could use the Sierra or BT for most shooting, and the TSX or Partition when you though it might be appropriate.

The 140 catches up to the 125 prior to my maximum range so I figure I'd rather have a 140 hitting something than a 125. I can dope elevation.

What would you recommend as the minimum expansion velocity?

GregW, I feel the same way as you when it comes to 140 gr bullets, will experiment with the 100 gr Partition on deer this year though.
I believe Nosler's minimum expansion with the Partition is 1800 fps which is beyond 500 yards when started at "only" 2700 fps.

Back when I used the 6.5/06 I used the 140 Noz a bit, it did it's job just fine.

I spect the bullet out of a 260 would open to 500 or so, though haven't looked at the speed at that range. I imagine that the bullet would open down to speeds of 1700 or so wouldn't it?

To date I've not shot any 140's in my .260 but may well one of these days. Thinking the 140 Horn and 140 Hot Core are a couple I'd like to give a go as well.

Greg, I've used the 140 NP to kill elk with and without hesitation use it again. Sorry I don't have pictures of the bullets they penetrated all the way through the elk.

I'm running dots now but am thinking of going M1s for elevation. Have't decided yet.

Going by memory, I think I can stretch to 550 or so if I use 1800 as an expansion threshold...

I've killed a few deer with the 100 NP out of my old .260. It shot through and through on all.

Cor-Loss on the left and NPT on the right, both 140s from .264 Win mags into elk. the NPT broke off side shoulder and was recovered under the hide on the off side.

I came up with the same idea a year ago at this time. I killed a couple mulies with the 140 PT out of my .260 this year. Great performance, one at 50 yds severe quartering away, in one ham, recovered the bullet just under the skin beyond the opposite shoulder. The other 356 yds LRF. Plowed straight through broadside, no bullet recovery. I'm happy.

Went to Sportsmans yesterday and they had .264" 140 grain Accubonds on sale so I picked up some of those as well.

We'll see what does the best with Hunter and 4831 in a few weeks when I load up some 140 NPs, 140 Accubonds, and some 130 SIIs...

If I could get to 2800 accurately and safely with any of the above bullets I'd be a happy camper. We'll see what the rifle tells me.

Those are 3 good bullets to choose from my 264 WM loves those 130 gr Swifts.

Post your results. In some charts the burn rates of I4831 and Hunter are back to back. I'm betting the NP and AB come in really close together and the SII win.

I'd also make a pitch for the 130 grain Accubonds in .264/6.5. My .264 WM really likes them, and I've yet to recover one in game. They should be great in the 6.5x55 or .260.
