I'm pretty excited, got the mail today and I got drawn for the spring turkey hunt.

I am out of order until further notice. My "stupid people" filter needs cleaning and my "give a damn" batteries have run out.

Good for you Muffy. What time period did you draw or can you hunt the entire season in MN?

Cool Muffy. Where is your permit for? Can I come call for you? 'tis my favorite part of turkey hunting.

I didn't even apply for MN. I never have. I'll have to change that one of these days. I don't know where to go even, but that's no excuse. I'll do my homework and hopefully apply next year.

Heading out this eve to pick up a new (to me) rifle. Ruger Hawkeye LH 30-06. Satin SS w/grey laminated stock. Picked it up last week in the Classified forum. Needed (wanted?) a 30-06 bolt gun since I used the action from my Ruger MKII for a .280 AI project. Took my first muley and antelope with the AI so project was a success but I have felt an emptyness in my life w/o an '06 bolt gun. Life is now complete once more (unless a Ruger #1 RSI shows up in Classified). wink

I find myself needing a .30-06 too.. It will be a while for me though, I have a lot of irons in the fire. Really, I don't see it happening this year.

When it does, it will be a Ruger or a Winchester. I'm really starting to like the Win's.

I traded a ruger 30-06 in sept for a 94 in 38-55. had it for 2 years and never fired it, so I got rid of it.

Ryan,

How is the SD antelope population? Is this mild winter going to help them recover some or isn't the pop. as bad as ND's?

20 years ago today a couple of kids stood together in a church.

[Linked Image]

Pam and I, we took it very seriously, neither of us wanted to fail.

We had family plans, both of us had goals to have children, raise children and live vicariously through them within the stability we hoped to provide for them.

Those were big plans, lofty goals for a couple of kids.

Well, we did it.

Thanks Pam, for the best 20 years of my life.

congrats to you and Pam, if only the rest of the country could follow your example we'd be in a much better position.

Rooster - the antelope around me have all migrated to their wintering areas so I rarely if ever see one. I haven't heard any reports of die offs, and the word I have been getting is landowners want more of them killed because they are eating too much. I know the northern part of the state has some limited licenses, but for the bulk of the state I think the herd is doing quite well. I can do some checking with the gfp guys and see what they know.

anyone get pheasants foreevr magazine? there is an article in there on me and the poperty I'm workin in this spring issue. in case anyone wants to see the area and what I do

Congratulations on making it 20 years Dave and Pam!

Ryan, that is way cool about the magazine! When does the issue come out?

The are lofty goals and there are few folks that can do it. After meeting both of you and your family, I have no doubt. Congrats to two of my favorite people.

it comes with a membership to pheasants forever, I'm hoping to get a couple extra copies to send to my parents and grandparents. I'm guessing if you got a membership that they would send it out to you. The editor came out here and interviewed me and we spent a saturday going over what it is I do, taking pictures and stuff. it was pretty cool.

Ryan, I think a 38-55 would be a neat Eastern whitetail cartridge. As I get older I find those obsolete cartridges get more interesting to me. The gun safe currently holds a Savage 99 in .303 Savage, a Winchester 88 in .284 Win and a Browning BLR in .358 Win. The .284 and the .358 aren't as old as I am but they sure qualify as obsolete. Some might say I do also! crazy
